Throughout history, psychologists, neuroscientists, and philosophers have tried to understand humor, which is to say: Why we laugh. Interestingly, humor was once framed negatively, and it was viewed as a way for people to be demeaning or disparaging of others as a way to demonstrate superiority or vulgarity. In effect, humor was considered undesirable behavior and something to be avoided. Fortunately, research evolves and advances, and with the development of the field of positive psychology, humor helps people develop greater emotional well-being and optimism. And while no one knows definitively why we laugh, the physical, mental, and social health benefits are striking and learning about them should lead us to seek out moments to laugh every day. Let's see if it works... "Singing in the shower is fun until you get soap in your mouth. Then, it's a soap opera." (hehe). Thank you for joining the conversation!
