Welcome to EPISODE 2 of THE PHYSICS PODCAST from RADIOLOGY JAM - How we use magnets to create an image (part 1)
Today we are packing in a lot of important concepts that are crucial for understanding how magnets are used to generate an electric signal from the human body. The signal generated is then encoded and decoded to create an image, which we cover in Episode 3. The extremely complex subject matter (quantum physics no less! ) that are covered in this episode are the essential building blocks of MR physics. It is heavy, but has been simplified down by the amazing medical physicist Joely Smith so even I can understand it! Episode 3 in our TWO B TROUBLE SHOOTERS series is CARDIAC IMAGING - Cardiac CT and Cardiac MR with Dr Ben Ariff, Cardiac Radiologist at Imperial College NHS Trust and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London
Dr Ariff completed his specialist training in general internal medicine, clinical pharmacology and radiology, providing him with a unique insight and understanding of cardiovascular imaging.
He is sub-specialised in cardiovascular CT and MR. Dr Ariff is a level 3 trainer in cardiovascular CT and MR as is a course director in accredited CT and CMR courses around the world. He has hands-on experience of most CT and MRI scanners optimising protocols and sequences to ensure bespoke imaging.
We are so happy to have him join the RADIOLOGY JAM podcast!

Welcome to the first "2b trouble shooters" episode. You asked and we delivered! SPINES!
Despite its perceived difficulty MRI Spines are a FAIR exam case. As they are a common and an expected on-call scan and you should have a safe and logical method when reporting spinal MR.
You need to know what a normal spine looks like on each sequence. This is achieved by understanding the basic anatomy of the cord and associated spaces, the intervertebral discs and associated spaces, the vertebrae themselves and last but not least the paraspinal soft tissues.
Our 2b TROUBLESHOOTING episodes aim to go a bit further. Here we have the space to retrace basic anatomy, discuss approaches AND cover the common exam topics in our normal format. We've put these extra's at the end of the episode, so that the key differentials for exam day are at the top of the listening pile.
