Most people were probably in bed or getting ready to go to bed. I started looking around in the parking lot. I saw nobody out there. And I thought about how most people go to sleep without accomplishing their goals, without doing the things that they know they need to be doing.

I used to look at people who had a lot of money—maybe they were successful inbusiness  or made more money than I did—and say, “Wow, I don’t know how I could ever get there. They must be lucky. There must be something special about them.”

The other day a $36,000 check showed up in my mailbox. Now, I don’t share that with you to brag or boast or impress you. I just want to let you know that you could make really, really good money making YouTube videos, creating content on social media, and building up your brand.

Over the years, one thing that I’ve done before I’ve actually achieved a goal—whether that was a financial goal, a business goal, or maybe a fitness health goal—is I’ve always spoken it into existence.

Do you know Gary Vaynerchuk? He runs a huge social media company; he’s probably worth more than $100 million. Gary V. has been known to work for 15 hours a day, seven days a week. He’s got a crazy YouTube channel. He documents his days quite a bit.

In response to one of the videos I did about starting a clothing business on eBay, I received a comment about a tip I suggested. Someone got a little worked up over my suggesting that you cut a piece from a dryer sheet and toss it in the package with the clothing you are sending. I think they made some really good points, so I want to repeat this comment here and then give my opinion after.

Let me tell you a story. I was at the thrift store the other day, and I went with my good friend Vinnie. We went out to Savers, and we were there hanging out. I was looking through some clothing and the books. Vinnie is a really successful toy seller. He sells a bunch of vintage and used toys. So he was looking through the toys. On a whim I decided to amble on over to the board game section. There were four boxes of Legos inside the board game section, and they were all brand new.

Sometimes people will ask me, “Steve, do ties sell well on eBay?” To answer the question really quickly, yes, ties do sell on eBay. But that’s not the whole answer. You need to find the right ties. It’s very similar to selling clothes on eBay. You’ve got to make sure you find the right brands.
