The Rawha: Daily Guidance for Seekers with Shaykh Faraz Rabbani episodes

  • 148 – Loving to Delve into Worldly Matters and Delving into Talking About People
In this podcast Shaykh Faraz Rabbani continues the text, “Blameworthy Traits and Their Cure” (‘Uyub al-Nafs wa Mudawatuha) by Imam Abu Abdulrahman al-Sulami (died 412 A.H.). This work deals with states of the self, and how to rid oneself from blameworthy traits. In this episode Shaykh Faraz covers the blameworthy trait of loving to delve into world matters and delving into talking about people. This world doesn’t last, and it is the hereafter that truly lasts. One should busy oneself with constant remembrance of Allah. There is a danger in looking good in front of others instead of doing good. Showing off is very dangerous. Its cure is to know that creation can not benefit or harm ultimately. Without sincerity actions are dead. The reality of religion is sincerity.
In the Rawha, Shaykh Faraz Rabbani will be covering Daily Guidance for Seekers. The text covered in this episode is Imam Abu Abdulrahman al-Sulami’s “ Blameworthy Traits and Their Cure”(‘Uyub al-Nafs wa Mudawatuha).

The texts in the Rawha will be read in Arabic, translated, and commented upon briefly. This class is of benefit both for committed students of knowledge—particularly given the reading in Arabic—and for those simply seeking daily guidance, reminders, and inspiration in learning to live the light of Prophetic guidance.

  • Retracing the Hijra (Part 2) – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said
In this podcast Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said continues speaking on the Hijra (migration) of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). During the Hijra people suffered a lot. Making Hijra is the way of the prophets. Many companions suffered in Makka after living a very comfortable lifestyle prior to accepting Islam. Allah opens doors of light and guidance when people make sacrifices for His sake. The way to Allah is to be patient during one's trials. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was being tortured and still asking for guidance for his people. The stopping of  the ability to call to Allah in Makka is what lead to the Hijra.

This work deals with states of the self, and how to rid oneself from blameworthy traits. In this episode Shaykh Faraz covers the blameworthy trait of  seeking Allah’s guidance and then being upset with His decree. Being content for whatever Allah has destined for one is obligatory. The cure for not objecting to Allah’s destiny is to know one is only seeing the outward of actions. Where as Allah Most High sees the inward and the reality of actions. Whatever Allah chooses for one will have eternal consequences  through gratitude or patience, or through praising Allah or repenting to Allah.

  • A Moment of Reflection is Better than a Lifetime of Heedlessness – Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
In this Friday khutba Shaykh Faraz Rabbani reminds the believers that the Day of Ashura is a  day of tremendous blessing for the people of faith. Many great events happened on this great day throughout history. Our beloved Imam Hussain (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred. Great days of the year are to be remembered. It is important to pause and reflect, and focus on the meanings not just forms. Allah created us and is sustaining us. There are numerous signs for those of insight. There are wisdoms behind why the 10th of Muharram is a day of fasting and extra worship. The day is meant to reminder for us. Similarly, Friday to Friday are days that serve as reminders. The purpose of the Friday khutba is to remind us of Allah. Each prayer is means to know who is your Lord and who you are. You are a servant . These are opportunities to be taken. Don’t lose out on these opportunities. Don’t lose out on a moment of reflection . The early Muslims would say: “ A moment of reflection is better than 80 years of heedless worship.” It is a moment to turn your heart to Allah, reflect on the greatness of Allah, and reflect on having gratitude . A moment to reflect on what is needed to turn back to Allah Most High. It is good to take a reminder on the special days. Use every moment to reflect, even if it is just a moment. Don’t just go through the motions in the prayer, rather reflect on the majesty of Allah, and the beauty and perfection of Allah. Reflect on the mercy of Allah. One of the key sunnas is to rejoice in Allah. A key to being able to reflect in remembering Allah and in making supplication, is that one doesn’t focus on the words alone rather the meaning expressed by the words.

  • Retracing the Hijra (Part 1) – Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said
In this podcast Shaykh Faid Mohammed Said begins a new series titled: “ Retracing the Hijra”. He begins by explaining how the Hijri calendar began. The Muslims had a new era of goodness after the hijra (migration of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) from Mecca to Madina). Madina became a city of mercy, even to the hypocrites. Muharram became a sacred month as explained by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him)  fasted during the month of Muharram. Shaykh Faid goes on to explain that one can not know the Qur’an and the sunna without knowing the Prophetic sira. He ends by explaining the sacrifices involved in making hijra.
