In this episode, I dive into Pitch Black (2000) with a look at the 4K Director’s Cut, revisiting the film that introduced us to Riddick and kick-started one of sci-fi’s most distinctive cult franchises.
Set on a hostile desert planet plunged into darkness, Pitch Black blends survival horror and sci-fi in a raw, stripped-back way that still holds up remarkably well.
I share my thoughts on the film’s atmosphere, creature design, characters, and how the Director’s Cut and 4K presentation enhance (or change) the experience, especially in the darker, more intense moments.
As always, a huge thank you to Luke Hayes Payne, Damian Sayers, and everyone in the Get To Da Choppa retro community for the continued support — it genuinely means a lot.
These episodes are part of our ongoing fan commentary series, where we revisit genre favourites, cult classics, and iconic films with fresh eyes.
