I recently had the opportunity to interview my client, Dr. Zola Quao, a Yale-trained, dual board-certified family physician and psychiatrist, about her journey from conventional medicine into integrative psychiatry and whole-person care. And this conversation went far beyond building a practice. Dr. Quao and I worked together to build her integrative psychiatry practice, and in this episode, we talk about:

→ Why she chose integrative psychiatry and what she believes is missing from our current healthcare system

→ The gaps in access to truly whole-person care

→ Why highly skilled medical professionals can struggle with imposter syndrome, despite everything they have accomplished

She opens up about a life-changing experience involving an assault that caused her to silence her voice for a period of her life, and what happened when she finally found the strength to tell her story.

Her decision now is not to allow that experience to define her. Instead, she is leveraging her experiences, her medical expertise, and her voice to advocate for people who have experienced assault and to bring greater awareness to the complex dynamics surrounding these experiences.

That, to me, is what it means to transform career into calling. Sometimes the thing you are called to build is connected to the very experiences you once struggled to speak about. And sometimes finding your voice isn't just about becoming more visible. It's about becoming more fully yourself. I'm honored to have worked alongside

Many visionaries do not start by becoming entrepreneurs. They start by noticing a gap that becomes impossible to ignore.

In this conversation, I had the pleasure to chat with Dr. NJoy, a board-certified psychiatrist and author. Along this journey from career to calling, we may encounter so many different emotions and may even question whether or not this is worth it.

The key is not to avoid what it is we are feeling but to choose joy regardless of the experience. That's because joy is not a feeling it is a choice and it allows us to fully accept and embrace this experience no matter the circumstance.

Choosing joy is ultimately what brings fulfillment and it's so important that we work the muscle in choosing it for ourselves each day. Dr. NJoy also describes her own journey to joy and what triggered her path to enlightment.

During the work that I do with my clients, I hear the word "legacy" a lot and that is representative of the path GOD maps out for us honoring those who come before and after us. In this episode, we have an honest conversation about money with Dr. Camille Upchurch. Every day we hear from money coaches, gurus, and society at large that success means more money.

We are told to chase better jobs, start businesses, and find ways to increase our income. What often gets missed in the conversation is that we cannot truly build wealth until we get out of debt. Dr. Camille knows this firsthand.

Like many physicians, she left training with six figures of student loan debt. While most of her peers focused on earning more, she went in search of books on money, debt management, and finance. Through self-education and discipline, she paid off her debt, impressed her financial advisor, and even began teaching others what she had learned. She went on to lead classes for Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, but she noticed a gap.

The narrative suggested physicians were not smart with money, when in reality they simply needed a plan and support to break free from debt and shame.

Today, Dr. Camille uses her personal experience and expertise to help physicians and other high-earning professionals get out of debt, start investing, and finally build the wealth they have been working so hard for. In this episode, I sit down with Xunda Gibson, MD who truly did it all. Like many physicians I meet, she dreamed of owning her own practice, and she made it happen for decades. Her mission was simple: to create an environment where patients received the care they truly deserved. She succeeded in bringing that vision to life, pouring her heart, soul, sweat, and tears into running her practice for many years.

We talk about the highs and challenges of building and sustaining a practice, serving patients, running ads, staying engaged in the community, and doing everything possible to keep the doors open. Eventually, after a difficult conversation with her bookkeeper, she realized it was time to let go.

The hardest part was not just closing the practice, it was saying goodbye to the patients, team, and family she had built along the way. But her story did not end there. On a temporary assignment overseas, Dr. Gibson discovered what healthcare could truly look like, with time and energy given to patients, real support among clinicians, and the space for her soul to feel refreshed in medicine again.

That experience opened her eyes to a new path in travel medicine. As she continued assignments abroad, she was often asked, “How did you get here? How can I do this too?” Inspired by those questions, she built a business teaching other physicians how to become travel doctors.
