The world of promoting your recruiting business has changed dramatically over the last few years, and I’d say beyond recognition when it comes to what it was like 12 years ago when we wrote our very first pieces of content for agencies and delivered our first training.

      The thing is:

More and more organisations are realising the value that an experienced recruitment company can bring to securing the best talent to take their business forward.

And candidates are engaging with the recruiter who can offer them an advantage in their job search – for example, providing ‘insider’ information about jobs that are not yet on the open market, specialist contacts and knowledge for their sector too.

As a recruiter, you are up against some pretty stiff competition – you want to get the message out there that you are the best company to work with yet there are another 40,000 plus recruitment companies clamouring for your business.

It’s time to break through the noise of competitors

So, you’ve got a great piece of well-written, and thoughtful content about your service and you want to use it for promotion.

Where once (and not that long ago) you could build a brand using one platform, such as your recruitment company website, the world has changed

There are so many competitors in the marketplace vying to dominate the sector you are operating in; there just isn’t enough conversion from using one distribution channel only.

However, don’t panic. There’s only one rule you need to follow for successful marketing – and that’s the rule of selling and promoting everything you do.

Which in the current marketing space is easier than ever?

There is a lot of data which suggests that a potential customer, in the case of recruitment candidates or clients can engage with you up to 7 times before buying into your service.

In fact, I was listening to a webinar from Hubspot recently which suggests this is even higher when it comes to someone who is totally starting from cold with you.

So, when you create that amazing piece of content to market your service, don’t just use it once – sell, sell and sell again on different channels to maximise visibility and get more ‘juice’ out of it.

Make the most of social channels

You can maximise Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and increase traffic to your website by using keywords carefully in your content.

We live in the knowledge world, which is fuelled by Google too. So, we expect to be able to Google anything and get an answer, so use this to your advantage. The more content you have on your website with logical recruitment specific words, the better.

It’s rarely a quick win yet watch what happens over the months and years.

There are lots of software options out there you can use to help you with this. From the simple (and free) Google Search Console to the more advanced, but pretty cool, SEMrush, which offers a free seven-day trial.

Keep your content ‘evergreen’ wherever possible – try to avoid references to specific occasions (such as a recent world event) unless your content is specifically about that issue. That way, you can re-use it in the future.

Ideally, you should be doing full re-use of content regularly during the year.  That means on your website, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc. You can obviously tweak it to suit, but it’s basically a ‘rinse and repeat’ format.

      Make it personal

Remember, the recruitment market is unique. You’re engaging with two sets of customers – clients and candidates – so make sure you address both of them in your marketing.

There will always be a need for new business; clients will inevitably come and go so you will always be looking for new opportunities that lead to conversion.

Similarly, there will always be a new wave of candidates looking for your help to secure a great job offer.

      Rinse and Repeat

How are you planning to use your content to get the most out of it? (after all, you took time out to write it or paid someone like Superfast to create it, so you want a return)

Let’s take an example. You’re a recruitment company wanting to engage with potential candidates. You want to push the advantages of working with you to secure top job opportunities. So, you write a blog article for your website. It’s a great blog…lots of detail about your services; lots of pros to working with you.

However, who’s going to see it unless they already visit your website?

Alternatively, say, you’ve written a great piece about your recruitment services for clients on LinkedIn, but you fail to repost it after the first time.

How many potential views do you think you’ll lose posting just once?

      Reuse and recycle

Remember – potential customers view your content multiple times before buying into a product or service.

In fact, it’s common for people to ‘binge’ on your content too… so make sure you have plenty of ‘things’ for them to access.

Repurpose your content. Link it to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and any other platform you use.

When it comes to posting we are often asked how often? The thing is to remember to add value when your post-mix it up and vary your times.

We recommend a minimum of twice a day in fact on our Superfast Circle call this week we had a long debate about this exact topic.

I’ve never known anyone achieve more by doing less when it comes to social media.

A good tip is to vary the links to your content by changing the titles each time. This gives a bit of variation and different hooks will attract different people to click through.

Then take your blog and put it into text form and repost on Facebook the following week.

See how we’re now reusing that same bit of content to get the value out of it?

Use the blog to record a podcast and put that up on social media.

      We’re not finished yet!

Cut the blog into chunks and quotes and put these on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter etc, linking back to your website.

      Taking it further…

If you can, take some of your best quotes and turn them into images to upload to social media. Alternatively, find a designer who will. Everyone likes an image-based quote.

You can also take the blog content and make a video of you talking about basically what you’ve written.

While you’re busy posting your content online, don’t forget the value of Emails – taking just a small bit of your blog to tantalize, send emails to clients and candidates with a link to the full piece on your website. Make sure you spike interest by not giving too much away and encouraging people to want to find out more.

We have talked about lead magnets and ethical bribes, and reports. People crave knowledge so give it to them in return for an email address or if they are already on your database as a nurturing tactic too.

This is a massive attraction for our clients in joining Superfast Circle because we provide a report for them every month as part of their membership, which they can use as part of their marketing collateral.

      Keep it fresh

Remember – update your content regularly. It would help if you kept it fresh and relevant. If you stop writing content, eventually the viewings will dry up, and you will lose your ranking online.

A mentor of mine has an interesting phrase which he uses to challenge people in our group. It goes along the lines of; what does your customer or client need to know to be true to work with you?

Umm have you ever considered this at all?

It’s a different way of thinking about marketing and sales, and yet it’s these questions which are going round consciously and unconsciously in your clients and candidates heads all the time.

If you are going to persuade that client, they need to work exclusively with you or pay you a retainer fee; you need to be answering these questions.

It’s the same with the outstanding candidate you just found who is already gainfully employed and on the surface happy, and yet you know the job instruction that has just landed on your desk could change their career for the better.

As a student of psychology and motivation, this is a topic I study all the time, so today let me share with you six questions to answer and keep front of mind for your clients.

You can utilise the answers in your marketing material and help your recruiters use the solutions too.

Do I feel Comfortable With You

When it comes to professional services, which is where recruitment and staffing companies operate, relationships are key.

It’s different in the B2C world. Purchasing is more often than not transactional.

Not so with a high-value commodity like people.

As a purchaser of services, we want to feel understood and that we are important to you.  If you have ever had the experience of being at a networking event where someone stops talking to you because someone better has come along, you’ll know what I mean.

As a recruitment consultant, everything you say and do should communicate that you understand your clients and their issues and critically you believe what you are saying; passion and enthusiasm and a confident approach will go a long way.

With all our Superfast clients and Superfastcircle members, we continuously focus on the importance of understanding their clients and candidates. What are their issues? What’s important to them in their career? This information can then be used to demonstrate their expertise.

Many people ask us where content marketing comes in? I am sure the penny is dropping that the content you have on your website and social media is communicating the fact that you understand your clients. Here is the thing this demonstration of knowledge demonstrates at an unconscious level that they are important to you too.

It’s that ‘knowing’ you communicate through the written and spoken word which makes people feel special.

        Do I Trust You?

Communicating you are trustworthy to clients and candidates is the logical next step. Trust can be expressed and communicated in so many different ways.

Are you clear on whom you serve is your value proposition nailed? If I land on your website, do I know I am in the right place?

Saying you provide; recruitment solutions and are the recruitment partner of choice doesn’t mean much anymore.

You appear vague, which puts a question mark in people’s mind. I get it you don’t want to lose the opportunity so ‘try’ to appeal to everybody not realising it has the opposite effect.

People want and expect more; the World Wide Web has made sure of that. People demand specialism. So communicate this to them.

If I am a digital marketing manager and I want my next role in the North West of England I am filtering for this when I look for you.

If I land on your website and you communicate that we provide Senior Digital Talent to organisations across the North of England, I am going to take a deep dive on your website.

The thing about trust is it’s all wrapped up with value too. What value do you provide to your clients and candidates, and how are you communicating this?

Do I Need What You Are Selling?

We both know that organisations need the help of a recruitment company. However, your clients and candidates don’t always appreciate this.

They need more insight, and it’s your job to give it to them.

Be the insight provider! This flips back to the first point in demonstrating your understanding of your client’s issue.

Liz and I were on a call this week with a client, and we were scoping out an email campaign. Part of their process is to visit the client and work with them on their business by telling them something about a problem that was going to happen that they didn’t know existed.

This particular recruitment owner can help their clients pinpoint the issues they have and don’t want. They also have the ability to pinpoint the different results their clients want and currently aren’t getting.

        Let me pose something here.

I suspect you have this superpower too don’t you?

The question is, are you communicating this to your clients and candidates.

If you want your clients to succeed, it’s about challenge and insight ahead of making a sale which comes further down the line.

Is This The Most Important Thing For Me Now?

Most business owners are going to have a mindset of either or. I know when it comes to building a team, it shouldn’t be the case, and sometimes it is. This is why it’s so critical to understand your clients and candidates and their motivations.

You have to press that button if you want them to make a decision.

R.O.I. comes into play here too. If I work with you, what will be my return? Is there a strong business case to work with you?

Do I Want To Buy From You?

This should be a logical summary and conclusion to everything else which has gone before. If a client and candidate can see the value you bring and that you are consistently demonstrating you understand them, you get a big tick.

If you are a specialist and a preferred supplier in everything you do and consistently demonstrate the value, you bring the benefits you bring will outweigh the investment.

Contrary to popular opinion email marketing is alive and kicking post-GDPR.

SMS text, bots and video have yet to take over the world; however, good old fashioned emails (the more automated, the better) dropping into our inbox are still working and delivering consistent results.

Recently I was reading a blog from Campaign Monitor full of encouraging data about our email consumption.

Did you know: Automated email messages average 70.5% higher open rates and 152% higher click-through rates than “business as usual” marketing messages, according to Epsilon Email Institute.

Personalise your emails and watch conversion go through the roof too.

Email marketing has been described as the highest-ROI online marketing strategy, when implemented correctly, with 67 per cent of businesses listing it as their highest earner.

Part of this is the low cost of creating a list and sending out emails; it won’t cost you much in the way of time or money.

Emails with personalised subject lines are 26% more likely to be opened and deliver 6x higher transaction rates.

Get someone on your email list, and you are then able to nurture them through to conversion at a small cost.

Oh, and people love it too. Marketing Sherpa, the well-known market research organisation, shared that 72% of people prefer to receive promotional content through email, compared to 17% who prefer social media.

          Convinced?

          I suspect you are.

So, what campaigns ‘should you be running’? It’s been a recent topic of conversation with our Superfast Circle members and our content clients.

So today, I want to share the email campaigns that all recruitment companies need to implement.

I’m not talking about ‘selling’ in hot candidates, which is more ad hoc. I’m talking about campaigns which you can rinse and repeat time and time again.

          Let’s get started.

          Lapsed Clients

This is the most straightforward campaign to use, and it is plug and play.

Unless you provided a terrible service most of your past clients will open your emails, and through the power of email software, you will know exactly who they are.

A simple campaign of three or four emails will work wonders.

The technique here is not to make them long and complicated. It’s more about letting them know about what is happening in the sector you both operate in and would it be worth a quick chat.

This simple campaign can be implemented every few months and then followed up with a call.

          Target Clients

In his book, The Ultimate Sales Machine, Chet Holmes shares several marketing strategies. One particular one is called the platinum 100.

This strategy targets 100 of your best possible clients, or it could be candidates, to work with. We have written two campaigns for clients recently doing precisely this.

Marketing 101… you can’t bring a client over the line if they don’t now who you are!

The power of focus is fantastic.

Here you create a campaign for this particular group. It involves added value content and call to actions. Imagine how warm this group is going to be.

One of our clients has multiple campaigns going like this across all their consultants.

          Client Nurture and Candidate Nurture

Here you are in regular contact with clients or candidates via email; all the while demonstrating your authority in the sector.

This starts by providing a free report or white paper, followed by added value emails. Today’s email providers mean you can check who is opening emails and then respond or jump on a call.

Remember this lead is now so much warmer.

There you have it four straightforward campaigns which will keep you front of mind, while at the same time ensuring you stand out

            Great Car Recovery!  Greenflag

            Transcript

Hi everyone, this is Sharon Newey from Superfast Recruitment, and today I want to talk to you about one of the absolute foundations for success in any walk of life, and that’s our mindset.

Now, I want to share with you three vital mindset habits to focus on, and some of them are going to be obvious and straightforward, and yet it’s incredibly easy to forget about them.

I am here on a country lane waiting for a recovery vehicle. I couldn’t have broken down in a more gorgeous setting on a more fabulous day, and so I’ve got 45 minutes while I’m waiting for the lovely recovery person to arrive and help me out.

Shout out to Green flag and their fantastic service too.

            Focus

Today I have a long to-do list, and I was thinking, what can I now do and tick off this list?  Now, focus then, is one of the key, essential habits. So, I thought, well hey, recording a video is on my list, and my phone is with me, so get on with it.

I jotted down the key points I wanted to share, and here I am making the most of my 45 minutes. This then begs the question, do you arrive at your desk in the morning knowing exactly what you need to do, or do you arrive at your desk, check email, then maybe write out a to-do list?

Key, key habit of focus. Start your day knowing exactly what it is you want to achieve.

            Objectives

Which leads me onto habit number two, and that is; if we don’t know what to do, it usually means that we haven’t got specific enough objectives.

So, make sure that you have detailed specific objectives, by month, by week, by day to help you achieve what it is you want.

            Black and White

And the third mindset habit I want to share today I call black and white thinking.

What I mean by this is be clear about is this a yes or is this a no? Is this going to work in my business, is this not going to work? Will this help me move forward, or will it move me away from what it is I’m wanting to achieve?

Because when we are uncertain, which puts us in that grey area, then we tend not to move into action. We move into action when we’re focused and we’re clear. So, start thinking in black and white.

So, there you have it; focus, objectives, and think black and white. That’s Sharon Newey from Superfast Recruitment have a fantastic day. Bye for now.

Today, I want to talk about the spray and pray verse of the sequencing approach to marketing. Now, you might be thinking, what do I mean spray and pray?

The Downside of Spray and Pray

Well, you know, often business owners will say to me, “Sharon, we are doing several different marketing strategies. We’re doing email marketing, we’re doing some paid, we’re doing some content and social media, we’re doing a little bit of PR, and it will go on.

It might even include events and things. It’s not quite delivering what we expected and certainly not what we wanted from an ROI point of view.”

There can be several reasons behind that, and one of them is the random individual strategies are not connected, and they’re not sequenced.

The messaging isn’t taking a prospective new client or new candidate right from the beginning of their journey with you, all the way through to the point where they’re ready to engage and work with you.

              How To Get Sequencing Working

A new client who joined Superfast Circle, I met their MD at an APSCo event recently, and they wanted to up-level their website. Start from scratch, completely new design and everything. However, they also wanted to look at their marketing as a whole process so they could make everything work better.

They were aware that some things they did worked and others didn’t, so their goal was to ensure it all came together.

They wanted a strategy to pull everything together first because then, everything would be driven by a plan; smart idea!

When I heard that, it made my heart sing because it was like, “Fantastic.” So often, people will go ahead with lots of gusto and enthusiasm and get a new website put together and then realise there are some elements missing because they’ve not thought through some of the additional marketing strategies that they want to implement.

So the insight to consider today is, take a step back, you know, review your current marketing and how you can connect the dots.

This way you marketing, time and resources will have far more impact.

That’s Sharon Newey from Superfast Recruitment. I’ll talk to you soon. Bye for now.

                The recruitment landscape is changing.

Opportunity abounds as organisations look to employ talented individuals for their team. Though internal recruitment teams are also on the rise, many couldn’t do their job without working with a specialist recruiter.

All good news then provided you are the recruitment company that both clients and job seekers choose.

The challenge today is that business is more competitive than ever and to stand out you need to ‘market’ your brand.

Greg Savage on his recent tour of the UK stated categorically that recruiters who didn’t embrace digital marketing would be left standing.

That is probably why many recruitment organisations are now recruiting marketers to their team.

So what do you need to look out for in that marketer you bring into your organisation?

They Have Experience ‘Doing’ A Marketing Job

This might not go down well for many and employing a young grad that has zero experience rarely ends well. Some of our clients were put off recruiting marketers because in the past they had hired someone who didn’t have the skills or capability.

Remember you get what you pay for and expecting a new young grad to come in and be ‘amazing’ from the get-go is crazy.

Some companies get one of their admin team or consultants to step into the role. We understand this is tempting to do…. and if you are going to do this, you MUST give them your support by providing training or help.

                They Understand Recruitment

Recruitment is different. We should know we have been delivering consulting, training and services for approaching 12 years.

It can take a while to understand the client and candidate journey, resourcing, contingency versus retained, how passive candidates interact and all while producing results and leads!

If they don’t understand recruitment and how marketing works you need to help them. It’s no surprise that over 30% of our Superfast Circle companies have both a marketer and their MD go through the programme.

They Understand Your Clients and Candidates and Are Fascinated By People

Today competition is everywhere, and people work with individuals they know like and trust. It’s critical that your marketer understands how to communicate with these individuals, and this starts by being fascinated with people.

                Marketing is about creating demand and awareness, and generally, people buy what they want and need. Our role as marketers is to;

                1.       Understand what that is

                2.       Speak into their issues and provide solutions

The mistake many marketers make is that they make it all about ‘you’ rather than the customers they are serving.

Marketing is about understanding the bigger picture and taking control and of working with you their manager to build a workable marketing strategy that will deliver what you need.

                They Are Amazing Communicators

Communication is vital in every aspect of marketing:

                ·         From working with clients and candidates and understanding how to get your brand message across to the people, it’s designed for.

                ·         ……and then how you work with internal stakeholders like the leaders in your team and the recruitment consultants to ensure the strategy is delivered

Your marketer needs to be super good at questioning and influencing otherwise all those fantastic ideas to promote your brand will never see the light of day.

                They Are Grafters

Look I know I am a marketer so might be biased and if there are a group of individuals in the world who work hard, it’s a marketing and sales team.

Marketing is a discipline with many moving parts. From working out the strategy, project management and implementation to updating procedures, writing content, liaising with outsourcing teams and doing the odd bit of design on the fly; it’s involved.

Hiring a turn up at 9 and clock off @ five individual I respectfully suggest isn’t what you need.

Interestingly one of our client’s comments about the respect they have for their marketer. Consistently they are the only other person remaining in the office after 6 at night; from driven marketers, this isn’t uncommon behaviour.

                They Are Obsessive Learners

To say marketing has changed significantly over the past few years is an understatement. The basic principles still apply, i.e. a message to market match, provide solutions, and get in front of more people who want your service and are likely to buy; are still a given.

The good news is that how you can implement these tasks is endless and full of automation opportunities too.

Back in the day…. When we launched our company, I learnt HTML to build a website! I know bonkers. Now I could buy a WordPress theme and have a new site up within the hour; by the way, I am not advocating this at all for you, I am just demonstrating this as an example.

                The possibilities are endless.

You can now show an advert on Google of Facebook to anyone who visits your website. Hey, you can even track the company who visits too.

The data we can now get hold of is endless, and it informs our decisions.

They Are A Great All Rounder

Having listened or read this far, it’s probably landed for you that a marketer needs several different skills. From the ability to research, analyse and make informed decisions, to adding an email into a campaign or understanding how firefish or bullhorn can be implemented into your system is what marketers can do…. and without bitching and moaning too #moodhooverpleasedontapply

                They Are Coachable

In honesty, this trait goes for any employee.  If during the interview you hear words and phrases like, ‘yes but’ or ‘we always do it this way’, or that, ‘that doesn’t work in this sector’, run a mile. With the speed of change, a marketer is involved with they have to be coachable to enable their ability to grow and develop and be leading edge in what they do so that your organisation gets to benefit.

Useful? I hope so. If you have a marketer, you want to support get in touch here. We have exactly what you need.

Today I want to talk to you about what your recruitment marketing has in common with the Netflix series Queer Eye and the British Cycling Team.

In this Netflix series  Queer Eye, we have four guys who are looking at a person’s nutrition and health and how they’re eating. They look at their grooming, their dress, and then how they’re showing up in the world and in their daily life.

They are recommending subtle changes and after a week working with these four individuals, you get presented almost a totally different person. Someone who’s confident looks great and he or she is just ready to take on the world.

Now, think about the British Cycling Team. Many years ago they just didn’t feature on the success podiums at any significant games in that sport.

Ten years later though, having worked with Sir David Brailsford for several years,  on several small incremental changes this has has resulted in the British Team being the most successful cycling team, picking up numerous gold medals.

                  Small Changes and Big Results?

Now how does this relate to your marketing? Well, imagine, think about your marketing today and all the different strategies that you have working. Let’s take email marketing, what if you decided to email out twice a week rather than once a week to your database.

What if currently you’re emailing twice a month to your database. What if you did that once a week. What if you thought about your social media and think about how frequently do you share blog posts. What if you increase that by one post a day or once every other day?

Now if you took the different marketing strategies that you’re implementing and let’s say you chose three or four of them and you thought about what could be one small incremental change that you could make to increase frequency or improve how you’re doing that particular strategy?

Now, the compound effect of all those small changes will make a significant difference in the effectiveness of your marketing and the results that you’re getting.

So a great starting point would be to download the Recruitment Marketing Checklist if you haven’t done that already there is a link at the bottom of this page.

Go and have a look at that and work out what information does that give you about where you can make some improvements. As you look to improve the effectiveness of the marketing that you’re doing, choose two or three of those areas and decide what you can do to improve that particular strategy.

Now, when you’ve done that you will start to see the compound effect of all those changes. So download that checklist now and have a look at what you can focus on to make that transformation in your marketing.

                    Marketing Training: Superfast Circle

                    Transcript

Hi everyone, this is Sharon Newey from Superfast Recruitment, and a couple of weeks ago, Denise recorded a podcast about 90 day planning.

Interestingly, we were having a conversation on exactly this same topic with our Superfast circle members yesterday. So I wanted to jump on this short video/podcast to share a couple of key insights and learnings about the process.

                    Rejuvenation

We were on holiday in Scotland last week, and it was a great time to do some rejuvenation and recharge those batteries. And after we’d had a few chilled days, it was a great opportunity to step back and reflect on what a great first quarter we’d had, and then start thinking about the next 90 days.

Now, in the conversations we were having yesterday, and linked to our own experience last week, I think one of the insights we had was, while we work on 90 day cycles within the business, we don’t take that same principle and apply it to ourselves as individuals when we’re thinking about 90 days of looking after Sharon Newey, or 90 days of looking after Denise Oyston.

One of the real take aways was that:

“You can’t do your best work if you are not in your best state.”

And I don’t about you, but by the backend of 2018 we were both shattered, we’d been incredibly busy, not just in that last quarter, but over the year, and we were just so ready for a break – rejuvenation.

                    Reflection

And of course, we get a good period of rest over Christmas, don’t we? But something that we did from a planning point of view, reflecting on 2018 thinking about 2019 was, we decided that at the end of each quarter or towards the end of each quarter we need to have some rejuvenation time.

Therefore, we blocked off and booked a week’s holiday at the end of each quarter and having had that week we now feel so different, it gave us a great opportunity to reflect on quarter one, what we’d achieved versus the plan.

Having that time away from the business was great to just take some time to reflect and think about quarter two and what those achievements in Q1 meant for what we could achieve in Q2 and how we could refocus.

The Power Of Consistent Planning Time

Now I think something that came out of our reflections and what we talked about with the Super Fast team yesterday was, it’s great to create 90 day plans, isn’t it? But sometimes as we start moving into implementation, something happens.

We get involved in working in the business, some of it might be on the business, but we’re in that flow of implementation. And what can happen if we’re not careful, is that we don’t take that time on a monthly basis to just step back and keep reflecting, look at that 90 day plan, keep course correcting if we need to, but keep being focused.

Because there is a danger, as we are enthusiastic business owners, opportunities come into our path during that quarter, it can be really easy to say, “Yes, yes, yes,” and not think, “Is this opportunity moving me closer to one of our goals, or is it taking me towards those goals but it’s going to go down a different path and it could take me longer, and it could be a diversion?”

So a good thing to do is, build into those 90 day plans, planning time, reflection time, and also on a personal level, time over each month as you’re moving through that quarter to do a little bit of rejuvenation, to make sure that your batteries are charged, that you are in the right state to do your best work.

So just a few thoughts and reflections there on 90-day plans. And if you haven’t had time yet to think about your planning for Q2, it’s only the start of April, this week is a great time to take stock, take a little bit of time out away from the business, so you’ve got a nice clear head and just think about what are some of the key priorities for this quarter that will help you achieve those goals that you’re striving for towards the end of the year.

Planning! Can’t live with it and can’t live without it, or is that just me?  I can honestly say that the success I have been lucky enough to achieve over the years is because of an ability to plan.

So, let’s look at planning and especially the power of the 90-day plan.

Back in the day, I used to work in the Pharmaceutical industry. At the time one of the most successful and profitable sectors on the planet.

We always worked in 90-day cycles; I guess because it worked.

A bit like the Goldilocks principle; a time frame long enough to get things achieved and not too long that thoughts, ideas and plans get shelved because of procrastination kicking in.

Over the past few weeks, we have been talking to our clients in Superfast circle about their progress so far.

We have had people on the radio, saying goodbye to long-standing clients and a big hello to new ones…., building teams, setting themselves up with new websites and podcast channels and the list goes on.

The thing is if you want to set goals, and hit them, it’s vital to have a ‘working plan’, and this is what 90-day marketing planning is all about.

Of course, you still need to know what you want to achieve over the year and in the longer term ideally 3-5 years.

Even though our minds feed off energy and positive belief, we need something guiding us, keeping us from losing momentum and going off tangent.

Therefore breaking your year into four bite-sized pieces works so well.

Your mind can see 90 days into the future which then allows you to push harder without distractions.

We have been working in 90-day cycles for years, and it’s exactly what we encourage all our clients to do too.

So here are some suggestions to make 90-day plans work for you.

What Do You Want To Happen This Year?

In the words of the legend Stephen Covey, start with the end in mind.

If you want to achieve X placements at Y profit, then you need some numbers around this. Do you know how long it takes typically from getting a role from a client to sourcing a candidate and sending an invoice?

This data is invaluable when you are calculating your time and what is possible.

What Needs To Happen First and Last?

From my past coaching and personal development days, I always work in timelines. So simple and yet many people miss this step.

Though you might have massive ideas about what you want to achieve sometimes, there are a few fundamental steps first that you need to put in place.

Here is a process you can use. It’s known as the present state to desired state.

Say your goal is to launch a new desk in a specific sub-sector of your market. As an example, if you were an education recruiter and you wanted to start a desk in special needs supply in a specific town; let’s say, Preston, that is performing well and delivering 200 supply teachers per month.

Grab yourself a piece of A4 paper, turn it on its side and on the left-hand side put no desk and on the right-hand side put, supply desk delivering 200 supply teachers a month.

Then think through precisely what milestones need to happen along the way to hit that goal.

                      It might be:

                      • Market research and proof of concept
                      • Competitor analysis
                      • Create an offer
                      • Recruit a specific consultant or train another
                      • Purchase a database
                      • Add a page to the website
                      • ……………………………and the list goes on

I suspect that all the ideas I have suggested won’t happen in 90 days though they might in 360, provided you have a plan.

                      Short Term Versus Long-term

As you create your plan, remember that you need a mix of short- and long-term goals.

Earlier today as I record this we were talking to a new Superfast Circle member who has a new website in the plan.

We helped her map out the steps from current to desired state for the website and their re-brand.

We also then shared some quick win strategies that her company and team of consultants could act on now for quick wins.

                      What Next?

As I write this, we are approaching the end of Quarter 1. So where are you when it comes to your 90-day goals? Maybe you didn’t consider what was possible across that time frame of your priorities were off?

                      Time for a review ?

                      Thanks

                      Denise

I first joined Facebook exactly ten years ago. I know because FB kindly told me a few weeks ago.

A lot has changed in 10 years when it comes to Social Media and Social Networking.  I remember working with a client who didn’t ‘believe in Facebook’…

Strange it’s like I don’t believe in electricity I know that wasn’t what he meant.

His reference was related to the fact that he didn’t believe any of his candidate database was on Facebook and therefore didn’t think he should spend any time or resource there.

It’s fine to have an opinion; though it does help if it’s backed up by data or experience.

                        We don’t work together anymore…

He was a nice enough bloke and it’s critical as a business owner to be open to possibility.

Test and measure before you make a decision.

Over half the worlds population has a Facebook profile. What if only 20% of your market was there, would you take a 20% kick up in placements?

So today let’s talk about mixing business and pleasure.

What if your Facebook profile could help to elevate your brand position and connect you with clients and candidates?

                        Well it can.

Remember in today’s connected world people buy from people.

So today I want to run through how to tweak and change your profile to stand out to your desired market.

                        Your Real Name

Obvious I know and yet some people don’t use their real name; which for business owners and sales people I find a bit weird.

I understand that members of our wonderful police force or social services are undercover I get that and …………….hang on your in business aren’t you?

                        Pictures Of You

                        A normal picture of you.

Not your dog or a glass of wine.

People are looking for your face it’s human nature 101.

People work with people and demonstrating your personality is fine; however having something slightly offensive is well…. The act of a plonker!

As my wonderful mum would say; it isn’t funny Denise and it doesn’t put you across in your best light! Thanks Flo that was one of many gems you left me with.

Ditto with your cover photo too. If you work in a particular town with a recognised landmark add it.

Or perhaps you and your family.

                        It’s about human connection.

I have my podcast microphone and Sharon has a picture presenting at Rec Expo.

Where You Work and About You

As with everything fill it out in full! You are restricted with your bio in the amount of characters you can add so make it count. Mine highlights the fact I am a marketer and writer for the recruitment and staffing sector.

Why? Surprise surprise those are the clients we want to attract.

Add your various roles and positions and link back to your website.

Add where you live if that is possible imagine that you work in Bedford as a recruiter and someone sees you work there… they might just contact you first because people work with who they know like and trust.

                        Share Your Clients Success

Recently we have shared job adverts from our clients success stories; one client has been on the radio  a few time over the past couple of months times and this week we carried out some probono work for a charity in Wigan.

So we were able to promote their charity too.

It’s logical isn’t it. The more people see of you the more they remember you, the more likely they are to work with you.

You are sharing success… so might this alter the opinion of people that see your profile.

The answer is yes by the way.

Share What Is Important To You About Helping Businesses Grow

A while back I shared a post about using your local supplier and how that supports local business. At the last count it has about 30 shares and over 100 likes.  The message obviously resonates.

I often share business, career and personal development updates.

It’s important to me. I’m obsessed with marketing.

I suspect you are obsessed with helping candidates and their careers grow and enabling your clients to scale; so why not share a useful link ?

Nothing wrong with sharing family photo’s and events…. It’s common for the Superfast Staffy to make at least one appearance a week to.

The updates you make help people to decide if you are the kind of person they want too work with too.

                        What next?

Step outside your comfort zone and start connecting.
