Welcome back to the Red Banner Race Report podcast, featuring the cross country and track and field stars of the NAIA.  I’m your host, Meran, and today’s guest is Katie Vogt of Doane University.  Katie has established herself as one of the top sprinters in the NAIA, and her recent season highlights include some pretty amazing achievements.  

• School Record Holder: On April 8, 2026, she set a new Doane school record in the 400 meters with a time of 53.32 seconds, which still currently ranks as the fastest time in the NAIA.
• National Honors: She was named the NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week in April 2026 after a dominant week in which she secured multiple wins and met national qualifying standards.
• Versatility: Beyond the 400m, she competes at a high level in the 200m and is a key member of the 4x400m relay team, contributing to several conference and national podium finishes, including the national indoor championship 4x400 m relay in March.

We’ll chat with Katie about her career improvement, her goals for what remains to be done in her senior season, and get to know her as an athlete on and off the track.  "Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. When you think of Voorhees University track and field in 2026, one name is currently hovering above the rest of the competition.   DeAndre Jones is a freshman sensation out of South Carolina, who recently cleared a massive 2.14 meters (7'0.25"), to claim the #1 high jump ranking in the NAIA, and also punched his ticket to the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships…and believe it or not, he just began jumping as a senior in high school.  With such an amazing start to his collegiate career, Mr. Jones is just getting started.

The Thunderbirds have a long tradition of track and field dominance, but our guest today is already rewriting that history just months into her collegiate career.  We are talking about elite jumping performance and the pursuit of national hardware. Joining us today is Nunu Ishaka, currently the number-one-ranked triple jumper in the NAIA.  She’s a freshman sensation who recently shattered a school record with a massive 12.56-meter flight - that’s 41 feet, 3 inches.  We will chat about the technique behind the flight and the mindset of a national leader while getting to know her as an athlete and a person.

Welcome to the Red Banner Race Report podcast, where we take a deeper dive into the amazing achievements and athletes in NAIA cross country and track and field.  Today’s guest is Tyrone Summerall of Central Methodist University.

It took two years, but Tyrone is finally back to running the 400-meter hurdles.

A school record and the current top time in the NAIA made it worth the wait as he clocked 51.57 to win the Central Methodist Invitational by nearly a full second. His previous best of 53.60 came during his senior year of high school when he placed third in the Florida State Championships.

As mentioned, Tyrone’s time leads the NAIA this season in the hurdles, and he followed with an anchor leg in the 4×400 as the Eagles’ 3:11.21 puts them No. 2 on the seasonal NAIA list in that event.

For his impressive achievements, Summerall was named the Male NAIA USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week.  This is the first time that a male or female athlete from Central Methodist has been named National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season.  He was also named the Heart Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

In this episode, we will get a glimpse into what drives this dedicated and focused athlete, the injuries and setbacks he’s had to overcome with patience and determination, and what’s on the horizon as NAIA Nationals loom closer.

Welcome back to the Red Banner Race Report, where we dive into the achievements of the incredible cross country and track and field athletes in the NAIA. I’m your host, Meran, and today, we have a guest who has quite literally rewritten the history books of the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Joining us is Milligan University senior Ellen-Mary Kearney.  During the indoor season, she won the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships in the 1000, mile, 3000, and DMR and is the back-to-back NAIA national champion in the 3000, winning in 2025 and again this year in 2026.  She’s the only female athlete currently qualified at the outdoor A-standard for the 1500, running 4:23 at the Raleigh Relays, which is close to five full seconds faster than the standard of 4:28.  She set a division cross country record in November, running 19:59 at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships to become the first woman to ever run a sub-20 6K in the NAIA. We’ll talk to Ellen-Mary about her training, goals for the outdoor season, life in her native country of England, and what’s next after graduation for this Milligan star.

2 minutes, 47 seconds. That’s how long it took to change Marian University history forever. In the final stretch of the 1000-meter final, our guest today ran her team straight onto the top of the podium for the first Red Banner in program history.

A few weeks ago, in Gainesville, Florida, we didn't just see a championship; we saw a shift in the landscape of the sport. For the first time in program history, the women of Marian University captured that elusive Red Banner, joining their men’s team in a dual-national title sweep.

And if you’re looking for the catalyst behind that victory, look no further than our guest today, Katie Woods of Marian University. She was named the Most Outstanding Individual of the National Meet after a staggering 28-point performance.

Woods won the 1000m individual national title, anchored the National Champion DMR squad, and took home a runner-up finish in the mile—all within a span of 48 hours. She’s the owner of school records in the 800, 1000, and the mile, and she’s a four-time consecutive Crossroads League Athlete of the Week during the indoor season alone, and she’s not done yet.  The senior standout chats with us about her dramatic progression as a freshman struggling to race to an All-American National champion, and what’s next on the horizon for her outdoor season.

Welcome back to the Red Banner Race Report Podcast, featuring sprinter Netanel Dorothea.  His performance at the 2026 NAIA Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championships (held March 5–7 in Gainesville, Florida) was a career-defining weekend. He was the only male athlete to win two individual titles, which earned him the NAIA Most Valuable Performer (MVP). Dorothea is one of the few athletes to achieve the indoor sprint double (winning both the 200m and 400m at the same national meet).

His indoor personal best of 46.69 in the 400 meters is faster than almost every national champion in the last decade, placing him solidly in the top 10 all-time for NAIA indoor 400m sprinters.

In the 200, Dorothea has shown incredible range across both indoor and outdoor seasons. His indoor PB of 20.75 (2025) is an extremely rare sub-21-second mark for the NAIA, and he is consistently within a tenth of a second of the fastest times ever recorded in the association's outdoor history: ONLY eight runners in NAIA history have gone sub-21 indoors.

In this episode, we’ll get to know this incredibly fast and friendly athlete who hails from the Netherlands, but currently calls Madonna University in Michigan home.

If you’ve been following the NAIA circuit lately, you know the name Nathan Cremin. After starting at Gardner-Webb, Nathan made the move to Montreat College and has since gone on an absolute tear.

We’re talking about the 2026 South Region Indoor Athlete of the Year and the man who recently obliterated a 20-year-old national record in the 1000m, clocking a 2:21.36 at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships, and winning the NAIA championships by almost three full seconds. Whether it’s the 600, the 800, or the DMR, he’s proving to be one of the most versatile runners in the NAIA right now.

 Nathan will give us some insight into his training, his goals, life in Ireland (his native country), and what’s ahead for this record-breaking runner.

Hello and welcome to the Red Banner Race Report Podcast! My name is Meran, and I launched this podcast to shine a spotlight on the incredible athletes, coaches, and supporters that make the sports of cross country and track and field so special.  I spent some of the best years of my life as a collegiate runner racing in this division, and the memories and experiences I had while chasing the Red Banner changed my life.  I hope this podcast helps you get to know the humans behind the amazing athletic achievements within the NAIA, and the stories told here inspire you to keep chasing your dreams and goals.

For our first episode, we are kicking it off in style with Marian University runner Tristan Trevino.  Tristan, a junior, had an incredible three days of performances at the national championship meet in Gainesville, Florida, March 5-7.  He was the anchor leg in the 4x800 meter relay, which set a national and facility record by two seconds in 7:27.  Tristan then won the mile in a closely contested race, coming from behind and outleaning Justin Kiplagat of Trinity Western and Camden Khon of Spring Arbor in a photo finish: the three runners were only separated by tenths of a second.  In one of the last events of the meet, Tristan anchored another relay home: the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) took first, helping Marian clinch the team title.  For his achievements this season, Tristan was named the USTFCCCA Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
