In 1953 sugar cane workers in Louisiana went on strike in order to form a workers' union.  Their movement exposed the harsh working conditions southern agricultural workers experienced, drew international attention and support, ultimately ending up in a Supreme Court decision addressing the workers' strike.  Listen, learn then activate!

Stephanie St. Clair, aka The Numbers Queen, was a successful business woman living in Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance.  St. Clair was an outspoken woman who wrote newspaper articles about police brutality, immigrant rights and...herself!  She even fought off gangster Dutch Schultz from taking over her lottery and lived to write about it!  Listen, learn then activate!

Sojourners for Truth and Justice was a 1951 group of 14 Black women leaders that issued a "call" to all American Black women to meet the Sojourners in Washington DC to march, air their grievances and demand an end to Jim Crow.  The group was inspired by Beah Richards' poem "A Black Woman Speaks of White Womanhood, of White Supremacy, of Peace" and printed their "demand", "A Call to Negro Women", in newspapers for all American Black women to read.  Scholars today refer to this as the birth of Black Leftist Feminism.  Listen, learn then activate!

The Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade with lawsuits from Texas and Mississippi seeking to take away health services from people with uteruses...but California is trying to resist!  Rainey and Liz discuss California's recent announcement that it will be a sanctuary state for anyone seeking reproductive health services.  California plans to use its over $3 billion surplus to fund transportation services for people with uteruses traveling to California from other states seeking reproductive health services.  Listen, learn then activate!
