Doing church is tough. It can be wonderful, yet other times toxic. When/if you walk out, remember that Christ goes with you. He will never leave or forsake us. "We" are the church, not a building. Karl's book Apparent Faith: What Fatherhood Taught Me About the Father's Heart will remind you that God is the ultimate parent. Perfectly loving, God is restorative, not retributive. Contact Karl and Laura at https://desert-sanctuary.com.
There really are things that God can't do. He can't lie, he can't die, he can't create another God like himself, because he was never created, nor does he get tired or sleep. In the Bible, it says that if we are faithless he remains faithful for he cannot deny himself - 2 Tim 2:13. He answers to himself, and he is accountable to himself. He is love, and it would be contradictory for him to act unloving. He is simply not able. In this episode Thomas Jay Oord joins me to discuss his bestselling book, "God Can't", in which he shows us "How to believe in God and love after tragedy abuse and other evils."

For all the good that the modern Church has done, it has also had many problems that it has refused to recognize. There is much need for the people of Christ to recognize that and reach out to help those who have been damaged and scarred. Fortunately, Mary Demuth is leading the way and showing us how this is possible in her book "We Too". Mary joins me in this episode to talk about how we can be a true light to the world and help start healing the hurt that has been caused by so many in the Church. Thank you Mary for walking with the broken and for being our advocate. You are the hands and feet of Jesus.
