Divorce isn’t the tragedy the tragedy is staying in an unhappy marriage…

Just because a child gets older does not mean that they are better equipped to handle a divorce. It will hurt them whether they are 5 or 25. 

What your children are dying to see is two people committed to working on their marriage rather than living a life in a toxic or loveless marriage.

The biggest problem with kids who grow up seeing a toxic marriage or a loveless relationship, is they become the kids who believe that codependency or violence is a normal part of a relationship. 

By staying for the kids you’re teaching your children a pattern that is hard to break.

The hard truth is that there’s no right answer in the situation. 

My best advice is to try your hardest to make the marriage work and if nothing changes then you have a tough decision to make.

“Sex is bad, sex is dirty, and you should only have it with someone you are married to” is the conversation that addresses the “sex talk” with your kids out of fear and shame!

It breeds shame in our kids and they learn to feel guilt and shame. 

If they are taught to feel guilt and shame, they’ll eventually get into relationships or marriages filled with shame, guilt, and secrecy around sex because that's what they have been taught.

During this podcast Larry @thedadedge and I, are in no way saying that you should "throw caution to the wind", but we are saying that you should openly talk to your kids from a place of respect, curiosity, clarity, understanding, beauty, and wonder.

We encourage you to talk to your kids about protecting their sexual boundaries, good decision-making, and consent.

Remember: There's no perfect way for a parent to have this conversation but if you can allow integrity and authenticity to lead the conversation it will make the “sex talk” more comfortable.

Imagine how marriages would change if we empowered the next generation to understand and accept their bodies, pleasure, and how to use discernment.

The best and most vital part of this approach allows your child to know that they can come to you, their own parents when they need you most.

Speaking your personal truth, and admitting your weaknesses is the only way you can gain power over your personal life and relationship struggles.

You’ve heard me say this before but I’ll say it again, "you’ll never conquer what you don’t confront."

The real truth of it all is that you can choose to remain weak and bound by the struggles in your personal life and relationships, and if you never speak your personal truth or admit your weaknesses you’ll never have the power to change them and you'll always feel bound and weak.

But, if you want to overcome them, speaking your truth and admitting your weakness is truly your greatest weapon to change any situation or circumstance that binds you.
