Katie Norris founded Fotolanthropy to share inspiring, true stories that deserve to be told. She serves as CEO and producer and has grown Fotolanthropy from a nonprofit startup to a nationally recognized film organization that has documented 20 true stories of those defying great odds.

In 2013, as a rookie film producer, Katie produced the award-winning feature documentary, Travis: A Soldier's Story, about retired United States Army Staff Sergeant and quadruple amputee, Travis Mills. In 2015, Katie produced the feature-length documentary, The Luckiest Man, sharing an unconventional narrative of Dallas businessman John Paine who has lived courageously with ALS. A graduate of Baylor University, Katie was recognized as the university's "Young Alumna of the Year" in 2014. She has also been named a finalist of The Dallas Foundation's "Good Works Under 40" award and named to "World Changer" and "20 on the Rise" lists.

She speaks about her journey as an entrepreneur and film producer but is most thankful to serve as mom to her children Rose and Redmond.

Dr. Bertrand is an SMU professor and expert on leadership development and coaching. A Dallas native, he has held a passion and drive for leadership, coaching, education, and sport since early on in his life, and has now made it his main objective to use that knowledge and expertise to develop and support others in rising to their greatest potential.

Dr. Bertrand recently completed doctoral studies at SMU and his dissertation was awarded a 1st place prize at the annual conference of Harvard's Institute of Coaching, the premier global gathering of thought leaders concerning the nexus of executive coaching and leadership. Dr. Bertrand works with leaders at the highest levels, whether it's executive teams or Division I head coaches and their staff.

This convo rocked and activated me. We covered a broad range of topics, from a children's book to Wimhoff breathing to cold showers to David's personal, 3 part definition of leadership. David unpacked who in this world is more in love with the process than the result, a section that made our producer go, "WHOA…" in the background!

On the activation side, out of this convo, I literally went and rearranged a portion of my schedule next week to prioritize some specific relationships.

Ellen is a wife and a mother to 4 children, two of them adopted. She is an adoption advocate and avid book lover. To Ellen, the heroism of women who place their children for adoption leaves her in awe each day.

Because of this, she started an organization in 2012, named BraveLove, to change the perception of adoption through honest, informative, and hopeful communication that conveys the heroism and bravery a birth mother displays when she places her child with a loving family through adoption.

Ellen and I swim out to deep waters pretty quickly, and I admire the vulnerability and strength she shared with me, talking through the challenges of being a mom of 4 kids, 5 years old and younger, and leading a non-profit.

Ellen taught me about Ebenezer's, and I'm sure many of you know what that is, but I did not. But I have actually been trying to apply the principle more clearly in my life since she and I had this convo.

And of course, we talk about the founding and heart of BraveLove, which is an organization I have had the privilege of partnering with and supporting over the years, and I admired Ellen's perspective of stewardship with the mission and organization of Bravelove. Even though she was the founder and one of the early leaders, she maintained humility and awareness that it was not hers, rather, it was hers to steward. Great wisdom and perspective I want to continually apply in my own life.

Steve was an NFL football player, enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Steve was a wide receiver for the expansion franchise Seattle Seahawks and spent his entire 14 seasons professional football career with the team. Upon retirement, he held several all-time receiving records and is considered one of the greatest wide receivers of all time.

After retirement from football, Steve decided to enter the political sphere. He ran for Congress and served from 1994 to 2002 in the U.S. House of Representatives for Oklahoma. In 2002, he stepped down to run for Governor of Oklahoma, and we unpack, a little of that season and election in this conversation.

Steve takes us back to the very beginning of his life, and we unpack together the impact of his father leaving him, his mom, and his siblings at a young age.

We talk about some of the figures that stepped into the father role for him, and one of the most powerful parts for me was when Steve shared some of the moments later in life when he began to examine and explore those early years without a father, how that void affected him, and the impact it had on his life. I admire the courage he had to process all of that in such an open and intentional way through his life.

Additionally, he shares a specific story about reaching out to his father years later that has challenged me in some of my own story and caused me to be praying about some potential actions I need to take in my own life.

I am confident many of you know Steve for his remarkable achievements on the football field, but I hope this convo helps you know the man behind the legend and equips you as you pursue your unique calling and life.
