Jallianwala Bagh is a historic garden and ‘memorial of national importance’ in Amritsar, India, preserved in the memory of those wounded and killed in the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre that occurred on the site on the festival of Baisakhi, 13 April 1919. It houses a museum, gallery and a number of memorial structures. This story is a part of our history and marks a dark day because of the brutality that this incident held. While we tend to take our independence for granted, this story will be a reminder as to how many people literally sacrificed their lives for the independence that we are enjoying today. People from different regions, religions, caste etc. joined hands together as one and fought for one cause and in the process of achieving that, our countrymen faced a lot of brutality, Jallianwala bagh being one of them. This podcast is about that. I was literally saddened while I was covering this podcast. The reason I am doing this is just a reminder to myself and each one of you that this independence has come at a huge cost and we should all make good use of it.
