Sorry for the delay, we were on a brief marketing sabbatical! This week we look back at our 2008 episode and see if it needs any mistakes rectified or omissions told. But probably not. But probably, we're not always that accurate...

In this episode:

We made some mistakes. We hold ourselves accountable for those mistakes! Even if we have to make fun of each other for making those mistakes.

Except this time! No mistakes, maybe a few omissions... This week we talk about 2008 being the "year of redemption" for three popular actors who rose to prominence, stumbled and rose again brighter and more popular! Brendan Frasier, Robert Downy Jr., and Mickey Rourke all had great movies in 2008 that brought them back to high Hollywood status. We talk about that.

Maura Rooney? Rooney Maura? Who were they? Are those names correct? Are they actually sisters or one actress who plays both by changing clothes quickly between red carpet runs? Are they scions of a great NFL family, or three racoons in a fedora and trenchcoat? Never have a couple of talented actresses brought up so many weird questions.

This intermission's outro music, Low by Flo-Rida; a song like a black hole that was impossible to escape from in the late 2000s! It was found in many movies throughout the years, but in 2008 was featured prominently in Tropic Thunder, The Women, and Step Up 2: The Streets.

All this and more, in a compact thirty minutes! Our technical issues have been mostly addressed and we both sound pretty good if we do say so ourselves even if we were a little sniffly and under the weather this week.

This week we look at the Best Picture nominations of 2012 and noticed something different! This year the Academy went with a ten movie list. Not to be daunted, we dove right in:

• Argo
• Amour
• Beasts of the Southern Wastes
• Django Unchained
• Les Miserables
• Life of Pi
• Lincoln
• Silver Linings Playbook
• Zero Dark Thirty

As if that wasn't enough, we added a few other categories to the Oscar list like Comedy Gold, The Independent Darling, and Who Did It Best!

Did Argo deserve the win? Did Les Miserables and Life of Pi deserve the nominations, or did they take up space that The Hobbit and Iron Sky could have had? Why did John Carter of Mars fail so spectacularly even with all the money and effort put into it? We have some ideas. This was a banner year for franchises! Sequels abound, and movies like American Pie and Underworld were on their fourth installments!

The toys of the 70s were the best. Not an opinion; it's a fact. We also talk a bit more about what kind of Lord of the Rings movie would have been made in the 70s and by whom after John Borman had to drop out of his production of one. Could it have been Spielberg? Kubrick? Lean? Well, we had the animated Bakshi version, and it was ok. We also compare and contrast disaster movies from the 70s with those from 2005-2025. Our verdict, the 70s had better ones! And 2009's The Knowing was awful.

This week we go back in time and look at the Best Picture nominations of 1967 and we are really excited to talk about them:

• Bonnie and Clyde
• The Graduate
• In the Heat of the Night
• Doctor Doolittle
• Guess Who's Coming for Dinner

Plus a few other categories we felt needed to be added to the Oscar list like Comedy Gold, The Independent Darling, and Who Did It Best!

This week we discuss Carlos nearly crashing out because he didn't understand that the first two and half minutes of Doctor Doolittle which only had a black screen and music was an entr'acte and wasn't actually a broken or corrupted version of the movie on Amazon he spent money to watch. Side-note, Carlos didn't like Doctor Doolittle. We also discuss the prevalence of Western movies during this time period despite their fading popularity, Anne Bancroft's angry reaction to Dustin Hoffman's "romantic" wedding crashing in The Graduate, and our love for King Kong Escapes, the Inoshiro Honda kaiju masterpiece where King Kong fights a mechanized version of King Kong...and other monsters.

There's also a bunch of Vietnam War movies, the Devil is in New Orleans causing trouble, greed is good, and Arnold Schwarzenegger brings a minigun to a fight with an alien, because that's the Chicago way!! Bonus points if you can name all the movies from 1987 that I referenced in that last sentence.

We also discuss the sheer fighting power of Joan Fontaine and Joan Crawford and how the actresses from the remake of The Women would compare. And Cord's apparent fascination with Bruce Vilanch. All this and more!

Rat Race! A criminally overlooked movie in the chase genre. Every twenty years or so, Hollywood brings out a chase movie starting with It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World in 1963 and then Rat Race in 1983. So we are overdue for new chase movie! Hollywood is slacking. Who would we like to see in an ensemble comedy cast of misfits and miscreants racing madly for some gonzo reward? We have some ideas. We probably could have researched those ideas a bit better, though.

All this and more, in a compact thirty minutes! And if you listen closely, you may hear the exact moment the online meeting we used to remotely record this episode stutter to a close and we had to restart the meeting in order to close the show! The lengths we go, I swear...
