“Great, now I have another reason to hate Christmas…The worst thing that ever happened to me was on Christmas. Oh, God. It was so horrible. It was Christmas Eve. I was 9 years old. Me and Mom were decorating the tree, waiting for Dad to come home from work. A couple hours went by. Dad wasn’t home. So Mom called the office. No answer. Christmas Day came and went, and still nothing. So the police began a search. Four or five days went by. Neither one of us could eat or sleep. Everything was falling apart. It was snowing outside. The house was freezing, so I went to try to light up the fire. That’s when I noticed the smell. The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He’d been climbing down the chimney... his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that’s how I found out there was no Santa Claus.”

Seasons Greetings from The Review Review, and our second of three new holiday episodes to close out 2024. Ghost of episodes past, and Christmas Sweater Queen, Audrey Marlene joins us with her pick, "Scrooged." (Dir. Richard Donner 1988) Starring: Bill Murray, Karen Allen, and Alfre Woodard. We go on a tonal journey through the years, and the tears that are abound in this modernized take on the classic Chucky Dick (Charles Dickens) story "A Christmas Carol." A stark reminder that in these uncertain times, it's always nice to know someone is there for you....SkyNet is there for you. SkyNet is always there for you...

This Thanksgiving, hunting season is over, as Ben and Paul go guestless (hunting is hard) and get restless for a mulleted JCVD, and as a result, a “guaranteed good time” (guarantor @whollymoses). This go round it's the action classic “Hard Target” (d. John Woo 1993) starring: Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg, Yancy Butler, and Lance Henrickson. Should this have been a Lance Henrickson vehicle? Is the only cop working during a strike the only cop you can count on? Do poor people get THIS bored too? And the power…of the one true mullet. These questions, facts, and more to discuss with your drunk uncle at dinner lie ahead! 11/27!

Guest Matt Barrow is back, and he’s putting US in the hot seat, with a movie he hadn’t seen, but we had, in “True Romance.” (1993 d. Tony Scott) Starring: Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, and Gary Oldman. We have a heart to heart to heart about how badly we truly all want burgers, and where to get them. A sequel pitch made possible with the magical Second Sight of Ai. And the Perfect Stangers we meet at amusement parks, hotels, abandoned nuclear power plants.

It’s Ken Vs Guile (pick Paul or Ben for whichever) in this no holds barred, knock down, drag out, rootin, tootin, scootin, hoot of a wrap to Spooky Season with our guest writer/director/actor Moses Olson! We proudly honk the honk, cause we fully tonk the tonk through his choice, a rare sequel, Alien3! (D. David Fincher ((don’t remind him)) 1993). We talk through this complicated…self hating (probably?), and strange looking hodge podge of a movie as long as Paul has a breath in his body. An episode that you can rest assured is good, cause it’s mullet era Van Damme approved.

Well, here we are it finally happened. You shook, and waited, and Chrtmahweenas (?) has arrived. Guest, and bday boy Ben Burris brought us, a HENRY SELICK FILM, “Tim Burton’s: The Nightmare Before Christmas.” (D. HERNY SELICK people, we cannot stress this enough. 1993) Starring: Chris Sarandon (Jack speaking), Danny Elfman (Jack singing), and Catherine O’Hara (doin’ it all, baby!). Is it good enough for someone to have good intentions, even if they’re making everyone’s existence a living nightmare? Are characters going from A to C or even A to Z more forgivable in shorter films? Is this movie part of your personality? Spoilers 🚨 It isn’t! #hottopic ?! Enjoy this Bday present/X mas gift/Halloween treat from a burrito to you!

Stick around pull up a bar stool, and open the pig snacks, cause we're in the annals for "Shaun of the Dead." (D. Edgar Wright 2004) Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Bill Nighy. We break down what the Director/Writer, and tagline describe as "a romcom with zombies," whoops, zed word. Favorites in The Edgar Wright pantheon, the general Evil Dead pantheon, even THE VERY SUBJECT OF THE EPISODE! That's right, this one has it all, and a Drumstick ©️ for your Trick or Treat bucket. So, get in the Jag, and let's haul ass to the Winchester!

Ben and Paul stave off the Wolfmunn (has nards), Mr. Frankenstain’s Monster, The Gillman (?), Bandage Boy™️, and Alucard spelled backward just long enough to review “The Monster Squad.” (D. Fred Dekker 1987). Join us as we assemble in the clubhouse (based in the annals) for discourse on custom made shirts, intended franchises, dope one liners (you looked), and skimming over some serious stuff….but only skimming. Just barrreeely skimming.

**WARNING ⚠️ THE FILM DISCUSSED IN THIS EPISODE CONTAINS MOMENTS OF EXTREME AND REALISTIC VIOLENCE
And now for something completely different… It’s Spooky Season (is it?), writer and returning GUEST David McGuire (@bowtierobot) brings a movie all about Jay Leno (it’s not) “The Guest,” (d. Adam Wingard 2014). Do you ever laugh alone? Because in this, one of the most polarizingly…hilarious (?) choices to date, we touch on
- The rules of threesomes (no clue)
- Trampoline stunts
- Masterpiece synth scores
& Paul has a Senator style stroke. Is this the MK ULTRA Uncle Buck? Somehow (purposely rushed by it) we don’t spoil the ending of this movie you almost certainly haven’t seen, and some say you should 👍 10/2!

No Paul? NO PROBLEM!! We don’t need no stinkin’, bad actor! Ben is joined by co hosts @rachaelperrellfosket, @bigtimebopper, & special guest @harriettedfelizo for “The Virgin Suicides.” (D. Sofia Coppola 1999) Starring: Kirstin Dunst, Kathleen Turner, and James Woods. "Accidental," death, a Trippy Josh Hartnett, and the unifying power of American football. The gang dives deep for answers in this very needed "Paulless" presentation of the 1999…dramedy?? Stay inside, queue up the Review Review, and prepare to never want to leave home again.
