Blood and Guts and the Grit of Survival
RSD's 'Homeless Dog' is no 'Lonesome Dove'. Believe me, that's a good thing. Reading this I often had the feeling that it reminded me of Bukowski in terms of the subject matter and the down and out outlook on the blunt end of life. But at the same time it had it's own feel, at times of being even more down and out, with a weary numbness to life. For those of us who find something to admire in such people for going on regardless of the difficulties in life, this is impressive stuff. Part of the grit in the style is also a bit like Hemingway, insofar as a lot of dialogue is direct, straight and to the point, stripped down. To conclude, a very good read and money very well spent!
