Welcome to the Rhino Julie Podcast where Entrepreneurs and driven, hardworking professionals can come together and learn how to take control of our health, or bodies and multiply our success in the process.Ā
I recently asked entrepreneurs their biggest health struggle and Kristin said:
"When I finally do slow down enough so I can take care of myself, I am too mentally fatigued to actually work out or plan or cook, so bad habits prevail, and then I feel bad about what I didnt get done. So then I add stress onto the fatigue. Then I start working again fatigued and stressed out. Not a good pattern."
I completely identify with this! In my business, COVID overworked all of us as well. Itās like we were running two businesses instead of one.Kristin had to take over her office adminās role post-covid and has a LOT more responsibilities than she used to. She said she gets in the zone and forgets to eat or move around.
I didnāt try to take care of myself until 2016. Before that, I was a driven entrepreneur who was always sacrificing my body and my personal life for my business.Ā
I would wake up, immediately check my email, check my social media, and put off breakfast until I had āgotten a handle on everything.āĀ
But as an entrepreneur, I NEVER had a handle on everything. There was always more to do.Ā
If I wasnāt working, I felt guilty for not working.Ā
I never felt like I could take the time.Ā
I was 12 years into owning my current businesses when I finally decided to take care of myself. I had hit rock-bottom (again) personally and financially.
3 weeks into my new routine, I was on top of the World.Ā
I had energy all day, every day. I didnāt need the candy in my desk to ākeep working.ā
Something else happened, too.Ā
I had clarity. I was able to FOCUS on my tasks. My brain worked better. I WANTED to solve my business problems.
I was able to pull our business out of debt, start a second location and fix many of the things that had haunted me about my existing businesses.Ā
Hereās the one step I would recommend Kristin take for long-term success:
Pick just ONE small habit each week that you know with 9/10 certainty that you can stick to. Just one. We overwhelm ourselves trying to be perfect, and then we feel bad that we didnāt stick to the plan.Ā
My favorite habit so far that I implemented is planning my entire day out the night before. From my morning routine to what Iām going to eat to what Iām going to wear. All planned.Ā
You can start with just planning one day. And you make sure that the day you are planning is something you can 100% stick to without a doubt. You can even order GrubHub or Doordash the night before to deliver food at a certain time during your work day. I just plan out exactly what Iām going to eat, even if itās not 100% perfect. You would be surprised how fun it is and how in control you feel!Ā
Let me know if you try it!
OR Hire a coach to help you with a personal plan. I actually hired one of our Online Rhino Coaches to help me make a plan that fits into my crazy life, which has been SO helpful (text or call 702ā767ā8797 and you can get a free online consult with a Rhino coach)
The return on my investment has been huge.Ā
She has recommended fun, thoughtful replacements for some of my favorite foods and has helped me develop the right habits for my routine.Ā
I never could have followed a one-size-fits-all plan.Ā
Iām 9 pounds down, but I wasnāt even focusing on my quaranpounds. I was just slowly but surely replacing habits with slightly better ones to make sure my business wasnāt taking over my health.Ā
