The American Stroke Association is reporting that strokes for the ages 50 and under is continuing to increase and has been over the last 30 years.
I didn’t know this, but May is National Stroke awareness month. And in a recent article and post on Twitter, FoxNews reports…

In the article we learn about Daniel Gainer. It was the week after Thanksgiving (imagine going into the holiday season with your family and having to unexpectedly deal with a stroke). Started with a really bad headache that was in reality the beginning of a brain bleed and eventual organ failure. His odds of surviving this were not in his favor. His wife was told to prepare for the worst. He was 29 years old.
This experience used to incredibly rare for people under 50, now it’s becoming more common…

Ask These 4 Questions For A Successful Day
So let me start off with a few questions that are not any of the four questions to ask every morning to have a successful day. How do you start your day? Is it structured and disciplined or more like a chaotic whirlwind to get to work on time? Are you getting up at the same time every morning? What time do you go to bed? And what kind of BS excuses are popping up in your head right now to justify why you don’t have more consistency in your day which equates to your life?
So before we get into the questions, here’s my challenge to you. If you don’t have one already, you need to develop a morning routine that is ritualized. And by ritual I’m talking about sacred. Activities that you do, in the morning that set the tone for your entire day.
Ritual: a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order.
Sacred: regarded with great respect and reverence by a particular religion, group, or individual.
Develop a morning routine that is ritualized and sacred.
Part of this morning routine should put focus on what you’re going to create today. Yes, you definitely want to put attention on all your goals. Long term and short term goals and targets are necessary, but let me ask you another question… What is the only moment that actually exists? Exactly! Right now! And your right now is created by what you do right now; today. The past is gone and the future isn’t here, yet… but it will be determined by what you make of today and where you allow your thoughts to take you.

I read The Way Forward by Robert O’Neill and Dakota Meyer to answer a question that seems to weigh on me and has been for several years now. My question that I always ask and wonder about is; what does it take mentally, spiritually and emotionally to be in SpecOps? And with a little bit of self-depreciation thrown in, what do these people have that I don’t or better yet, what have they fostered in themselves that I did not? Especially in my youth. I am reminded of the story from American Sniper where Chris Kyle’s father tells him about wolves, sheep and sheepdogs. Which one am I? Which one do I want to be, emulate, be known for?
I too want to create a lasting legacy. I mean who doesn’t? And life comes at us with all sorts of challenges. Life is literally a choose your own adventure book. Life is a game. How will you play?

10 Pragmatics For Living A Higher Quality of Life
An interesting (kinda stupid) experiment
I’ve found 10 pragmatics for living a higher quality of life. But before we get started, let’s take a moment to look at and make sure we understand what is meant by pragmatics for living. Pragmatics is a subfield of linguistics and semiotics that studies the ways in which context contributes to meaning. And to be pragmatic means dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.
I was inspired to put together these 10 pragmatics for living a higher quality of life after an interesting (kinda stupid) experiment I played on myself. I allowed myself to take the full force of Twitter. After listening to a podcast with Joe Rogan and Jack Dorsey with Vijaya Gadde and Tim Poole, I realized that there’s a lot of Twitter I was filtering out. A lot of the experiences they were describing were not my experiences. I had heard about the vitriol and have seen it to a degree but never realized the magnitude of anger, cynicism, negativity and outright disregard for one’s humanity.
I often wonder what it takes for someone to be cruel
It’s almost as if some of these folks out there have forgotten that they’re tweeting to an actual person. I often wonder what it takes for someone to be cruel and see a certain group as subhuman and literally remove their empathy for someone else.
Historically, what has happened in the past that allows one group of humans to eradicate another? I mean how does an entire nation tolerate systematic genocide? Whether that’s Nazi Germany or The United States. Both countries are guilty of it and both countries have moved past it.

Freedom From Fear: Songs of a War Boy Book Review
This is the story of Deng Adut [pronounced Dang Ahh-doot] called “Songs of a War Boy.”
At 6 he is taken from his family in South Sudan and trained as a soldier in the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army. He is marched for 33 days to Ethiopia along with 30 other kids. These boys were forced to fight in the Second Sudanese Civil War. They were brainwashed and drugged with amphetamines. The horrors this kid was exposed to are incomprehensible.
A friend of mine in Australia sent me a couple books to read based on a discussion of people we'd like to meet that we admire. This man was one of them...
