Done with the dating games? It's time to trade the game for God and love that lasts for a lifetime. It all starts with what you are looking for, and once you find it, how do you keep?
What are you looking for?
If you listen to the world, it will tell you to look for a number of things that do not matter in the long run, but scripture tells us to look at the heart.
1 Samuel 16:7 - But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
How do you find it?
We focus too much on finding the right person and not enough on being the right person. Instead of asking if they are right for you, ask if you are right for them. This is how you find the right relationship, by being selfless.
Matthew 6:33 - But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
How do you keep it?
The number one way that you keep a marriage is by ensuring God is on the throne. A healthy, successful marriage is not only between two people; it includes God and prioritizes Him in the relationship.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 - Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Next, you have to submit to one another. the Bible is clear about this. You also have to love each other the way that Christ loved the church, and what do we know about this? He died for the church. We have to continue on a path of selflessness.
Ephesians 5:22, 25 - Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord... Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
A final key element in keeping the relationship is to not forget the things you did at first! When you're first dating, you're doing everything you can to show your love, and this should be continued throughout your relationship.
Revelation 2:4-5 - Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
