Broome is a beach resort town on Western Australia’s Kimberley region. Along its Indian Ocean coastline, the white sands of 22km-long Cable Beach offer a dramatic backdrop for sunset camel rides. At Gantheaume Point nearby, dinosaur tracks are revealed in the beach’s red rocks during low tide. The Bombing of Darwin, also known as the Battle of Darwin,  on 19 February 1942 was the largest single attack ever mounted by a foreign power on Australia. On that day, 242 Japanese aircraft, in two separate raids, attacked the town, ships in Darwin's harbour and the town's two airfields in an attempt to prevent the Allies from using them as bases to contest the invasion of Timor and Java during World War II.

Pack your bathers and put in the beach towel and get ready to taste the area of Agnes Water which is a small coastal town situated in the Gladstone Region, Queensland and is the closest access point to Southern Great Barrier Reef. 

It is known mostly for its amazing beaches and fishing. Close by or 5 mins down the road is Seventeen Seventy ( 1770) which are both great options for your laid back beach location.

 The town is built on the site of the second landing in Australia by James Cook and the crew of HM Bark Endeavour in May 1770 and their first landing in what is now the state of Queensland.

The ‘Darling River Run’ in its entirety is book-ended by the townships of Brewarrina in the North, and Wentworth in the South. This is where the Darling ultimately yields and converges, inexorably, with the mighty Murray River.  This week though its Bourke to Wilcannia for us and a great trip along the Darling.

The Overlanders Way was an essential route in World War II and a practical cattle transfer route from the Northern Territory to the coastal markets in Queensland. Today it’s a 1550km long strategic touring route. Both highways are fully sealed. During the wet season, rivers might overflow on the road, and some narrow parts of the road require more cautious driving. We headed from the Great Barrier Reef in Townsville west and ended up at the border of the Northern Territory, and what fantastic history of dinosaurs and so much more we discovered!

Like we did, you can drive the Overlanders Way any season but be aware of flooding and storms if you do it in the summer. The wildlife is more active during wet season, and waterholes get full. However, some towns might get cut off because of flooding, and you’ll have to modify your plans. The colder months, June and July, are more suitable if you want dry weather, but anytime between April and October is perfect.

There are eleven historic places scattered across Australia that were inscribed on the World Heritage List. This is the first time sites connected to penal transportation have been included.

These sites place Australia’s convict history within the broader story of European expansion, along with the forced migration of labour in the late 18th century.

Talk of Australia’s convict beginnings was once taboo; a source of embarrassment. It is now treated with pride. Along with the social and cultural legacy, Australians have come to value the objects and architectural remains that record and recall their convict past. The once neglected ruins and relics have become must-see attractions.

We visit NSW and Australia’s first inland city in 1863, Goulburn is a proud historic town thriving with museums, festivals, restaurants and galleries. There is also plenty of surrounding outdoor adventure, from canyoning and rock climbing to abseiling and caving.

Standing on Goulburn’s fringe is the Big Merino – one of Australia’s iconic ‘big things’ and symbolic of the city known as the fine wool capital of the world. For a beautiful panorama of Goulburn, head to the tower lookout in the Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum.

Soak up Goulburn’s beautifully preserved history on a self-guided walk or guided tour, which includes the towering St Saviour’s Anglican Cathedral. You can also visit historic Riversdale Homestead, which dates back to the 1830s. Rail buffs will love the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre.

From Port Augusta through some truly remarkable land through the centre of South Australia's desert country to Alice Springs.   It is possible to follow the path of the old Ghan train along what is known as the Old Ghan Railway Heritage Trail, but a 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended. It does get travelled in sedans but needs the utmost care. It is best test travelled from April to September and takes a week or more.

 The drive begins at Port Augusta, South Australia, and finishes at Alice Springs, Northern Territory. Length: 1,050 km. The Oodnadatta Track follows closely a similar route as the Old Ghan Railway and is often used to follow the path taken by the old line through South Australia.

The route is an adventure of historical interest with railway sidings, stone railway buildings, track remnants, bridges and railway infrastructure. The route was also followed by the Overland Telegraph in 1872 and that linked Australia with the rest of the world for the first time with telegraph communication under the sea. Telegraph Repeater Station ruins and settlements are also on route.
