As I travel with my sister we end up in an unexpected place. I learn some tricks for dealing with fear and learning to relax.

I’m taking you back through the last couple of months of my travels. Some of my listeners really want to hear the stories, so I’ll tell them This process is also my way of coming to understand I’m going to be OK. Of telling myself, you did plan really well, you really do have resources and help and it is going to be a great journey, dispute all the vast newness of it all and all the ensuing challenges!

I continue to have nervous butterflies and everyday brings new challenges on this journey. This week, I find myself exploring my dual drives for both migration and connectedness. Where do they come from? Are they related?

Sometimes I don’t recognize or acknowledge when I’m in a situation where there’s good reason to have trepidation or insecurity. Not recognizing those feelings leads to more intense fears. Here’s how I cope. Or not.

I find it interesting that women always seems to be looking for their mothers or grandmothers, whether their mothers and grandmothers are alive or dead. Maggie and I talk about her mother, my grandmother and the differences in our experiences. Plus, Maggie shares a tribute to her mother in her own words. Priceless to us both.

All of us make decisions as children to protect ourselves from feelings and thoughts. We don’t know when we’re young that thoughts and feelings are our own, that we are in charge of them, we just want to feel safe. Here’s my story of one of those situations where I made a huge decision that affected my entire life and still does.
