“Earn all you can, save all you can, and give all you can” is what Gertrude Salzer Gordon learned and practiced all her life. She experienced joy and hurt, but no matter what, she never stopped improving our community. Gertrude gave, helped, and loved selflessly. A private woman, she never needed her name in lights, and that is why most people have no idea how much she has impacted La Crosse. Docudrama created by Caroline.

Welcome to the Road She Traveled, a student-created project to honor women in our community who have made a difference. Jay, a seventh grade student, explains how this project evolved.

In order to create this overview, Jay interviewed Jean Marck and Margaret Larson, representatives of the League of Women Voters, as well as his teachers Mrs. Halderson and Mrs. Ramsay.

Jay’s role was the Visual File Manager, and he coordinated the sharing and archiving of all the scanned images and photos taken. His organizational skills and quick thinking were critical to this project’s success!
