  • Brad Roberts (Crash Test Dummies)

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm. It’s a good Wednesday for a new episode of The Road The Stage. This week we hung out on Zoom with Brad Roberts of the Crash Test Dummies - a band about to embark on a massive North American tour with a stop right here in Red Deer on September 15th. The last time the Dummies played Bo’s, we heard tell of people crying from joy. We discuss some of the stories fans have brought to the band, the new era of releasing music, an amazing experience with the one and only Andy Partridge, KISS, music theory and MORE.

CHECK IT OUT DUDES. You can watch the episode over at the Communal Creative Studios YouTube channel - which if you haven’t subscribed to yet…well - you might actually be a dummy. Sorry.

  • Denz McFarlane (The OBGMs)

Have you ever listened to the 5 greatest albums of all time? It’s easy to do when all 5 spots go to The Ends from The OBGMs. Yah. Yah yah yah.

Denz McFarlane joins The Road The Stage this week to chat about being in a very busy band that holds true a remarkable creative integrity and commitment to being the best, pitting for the first time, the meaning of a Polaris Music Prize nomination, connecting The Wire throughout everything The OBGMs, Alanis Morisette, creating the next cult AND Denz asks Patrick Bateman and Peter Michaels a question that SHOULD be easily answered - but unfortunately, it isn’t. And that’s a major issue.

Check out The OBGMs - or miss out on greatness. Your call.

  • Apollo Suns

You made it to hump day AND a new episode of The Road The Stage. Joining Patrick Bateman and Peter Michaels is a select crew from the unbelievably talented Apollo Suns. Ed Durocher, Anatol Rennie and Glenn Radley sat down behind Bo's Bar & Stage before the Apollo Suns to chat. It was hot. Very hot. Some of us had shade, and some of us threw shade. Trust Patrick to insult one of our guests roughly 30 seconds into this interview. Cool.

Check out Apollo Suns next time they swing through your area, they are GREAT. In fact, watch this and subscribe to the Communal Creative Studios YouTube channel.

  • Sister Ray

What’s the greatest line used to promote an album? You’re going to find out in this episode of The Road The Stage with Ella Coyes AKA Sister Ray. Patrick Bateman and Peter Michaels have been spending a ton of time with Sister Ray’s new record Communion, which is absolutely beautiful. And it reveals a lot about the sort of things Ella has experienced over the years. We talk about the process, working with Ginla, finally seeing Big Thief, the Legend of Jackie Shane, Chicago eats and maybe even some F1. It’s a great talk and you deserve to hear it.

You can also watch it over on the Communal Creative Studios YouTube channel.

  • Sham Family

The Road The Stage is here to deliver what was a very fun interview with the Sham Family, snuggled up tight in the back office at Bo’s Bar & Stage. Sham Family were in town opening up for Born Ruffians, a show we’ve been eagerly anticipating for what feels like FOREVER.

The recent Sham Family EP has been a pretty consistent earworm around these parts, so Patrick Bateman and Peter Michaels were excited to learn more about the dudes in a Dodge Caravan. We talk about perfectionism, pandemic timing, performance anxiety and at least one way to deal with it and MORE.

Dig in and make sure you follow the Sham Family, they are great.

And follow us too! Especially at the Communal Creative Studios YouTube channel - where you can watch every episode of The Road The Stage and see some seriously sweet content.

  • The PP Crew Together Again

Yo! The Road The Stage is here... for you. All the time. Patrick Bateman and Peter Michaels found themselves on opposite ends of a ZOOM call - so they talked some stuff. Vancouver, Montreal, Jack White, Formula 1, NOBRO and the OBGMs. Just a chill conversation!

This is the kind of thing that happens A LOT. We sign on to talk to a guest, discover there's some sort of technical or scheduling issue and BOOM - the PP Crew sits silently without an interviewee. So we decided not keep it silent this time and GUESS WHAT? It was fun.

Stay tuned for another great guest on The Road The Stage next week! While you wait - subscribe to the Communal Creative Studios YouTube channel and like what you see!
