What does it look like when our lives actually reflect who we are as sons and daughters of God?

Galatians 4 tells us that an heir, while still a child, may live no differently than a slave, even though the inheritance already belongs to him. In the same way, we can belong to Jesus and still live in bondage to attitudes, behaviors, emotions, and patterns that do not reflect who we have become in Christ.

“Sons and daughters are not supposed to act like slaves. We’re supposed to act differently. We’re supposed to think differently. We’re supposed to talk differently. We’re supposed to believe differently. We’re supposed to control ourselves differently.”

Through Galatians 4 and 1 Corinthians 3, Chad confronts spiritual immaturity and challenges us to recognize carnality in our own lives. Envy, strife, division, offense, uncontrolled anger, gossip, and other areas where our flesh remains in control can keep us living beneath the freedom Jesus purchased for us.

This is not a message of condemnation. It is an invitation to grow up, come out of bondage, and live in the freedom and inheritance Jesus has made available to us.

God has called us to be sons and daughters whose lives are led by the Spirit. It is time to grow up, leave slavery behind, and live differently.

Can you be an heir and still live like a slave?

In Live Like an Heir, from the sermon series: Spiritual Authority: Sons & Daughters, Pastor Chad Everett continues through Galatians 4 and challenges us to recognize where we may be living beneath what God has already made available through Christ.

Through faith in Jesus, we are born into the family of God as sons and daughters, and if we are sons and daughters, we are heirs. But Galatians 4 shows us that an heir who remains immature can live no differently from a slave, even though the inheritance already belongs to them.

Spiritual maturity is not determined by age or how many years we have followed Jesus. As we grow in God’s Word and put His truth into practice, we grow in our understanding of what is already ours in Christ.

Jesus’ story of the two sons in Luke 15 reveals two ways we can miss this. Failure can convince us that we no longer deserve to live as sons and daughters, while faithful service can become striving to earn from God what He has already made available. Both can leave an heir thinking and living like a slave.

The Father is calling His sons and daughters to know Him, grow in spiritual maturity, receive what He has provided through Jesus, and live like an heir.

“Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”

What do you do when following Jesus gets hard?

In Stay Strong: Endure, you’ll be challenged to look at what happens when resistance, hardship, persecution, and spiritual opposition come against your faith. Jesus never promised that following Him would mean avoiding difficulty. He called His followers to remain faithful, stand firm, and endure.

Mark 4 warns about seed that falls on stony ground. The Word is received with joy, but when trouble comes, there is no deep root to sustain it. That same warning still matters today. It is possible to hear the Word, agree with it, and even be encouraged by it without allowing it to take root deeply enough to shape how you respond when life becomes difficult.

This message will challenge you to examine the condition of your heart and ask whether your faith is prepared to endure.

You’ll see why resistance does not always mean you are doing something wrong. Following Jesus puts you in opposition to the ways of the enemy, and spiritual battles are part of the life of a disciple. Scripture calls believers to endure hardship as good soldiers of Jesus Christ, resist the devil, and refuse to abandon their confession of faith.

You’ll also be challenged to count the cost of following Jesus. Salvation is a free gift, but discipleship calls you to carry your cross, surrender your life, and keep following when obedience costs you something.

If you are facing pressure, disappointment, betrayal, fear, hardship, or a season where you feel like giving up, this message is an encouragement to keep going. Your strength does not come from your ability to fight alone. Jesus is with you, the Holy Spirit strengthens you, and you can remain faithful through the battle.

Don’t let resistance uproot what God has planted in you. Draw near to Him. Stand your ground. Keep believing. Keep following. Stay strong and endure.

In Christ, race, nationality, social status, gender, and denominational differences do not determine our value or belonging. We are one body, united under Jesus, and called to stop allowing the distinctions of the world to divide the family of God.

Chad also teaches what it means to belong to Christ as Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise. Sons and daughters do not have to earn their way into what Jesus has already provided. What does it really mean to be all in with Jesus?

Following Jesus was never meant to be a Sunday-only experience. Jesus invites us to take the plunge, and to stop holding parts of our lives back and become completely surrendered to Him. As we stay connected to Jesus, His peace, wisdom, righteousness, and life begin to flow into us. And when we are saturated with His presence, the people around us should experience the overflow.

Chad also challenges us to recognize what no longer fits. In Christ, we have put off the old man and put on the new. Old attitudes, old habits, old labels, and old ways of thinking may try to come back, but they do not define who we are anymore.

“Your identity is found in your relationship with Jesus. That you were created to be a son or daughter of God.”

The world offers countless ways to define identity through careers, accomplishments, titles, status, or success, but Scripture points us somewhere deeper. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we are brought into the family of God as sons and daughters with a Father who loves us and calls us His own.

That truth changes more than how we see ourselves. It changes how we relate to God. In John 17, Jesus reveals the depth of the Father’s love for His children, even saying that the Father has loved them as He loved Jesus.

Galatians also reminds us that this relationship is received through faith, not earned through performance or determined by emotion. And faith is not about trying to manufacture enough belief. “It’s not about the intensity of my faith. It’s about the object of my faith.”

If God is truly our Father, who has the final say in our lives? Sonship is a relationship that shapes our obedience, our choices, and the way we reflect the character of the One we belong to.

This message is an invitation to stop building identity on what can change and begin living from what God has already declared: through faith in Christ, know whose you are and live surrendered as a son or daughter of God.

What do you do when the battle seems stronger the closer you get to God's purpose for your life?

In Overcoming the Warfare Attached to Your Harvest, guest speaker Richie Seltzer teaches that spiritual warfare often intensifies where God has spoken His promises and prepared a harvest. What does it truly mean to walk by the Spirit?

In Walking by the Spirit, Blake Bradley takes us to Matthew 26 and the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus modeled complete surrender to the Father's will before going to the cross. What do you do when you don't feel close to God?
