Jesus warned the disciples that they would soon be scattered and leave Him alone. There are times in our own lives when we are scattered and choose to deny our Lord. However, Jesus also promised them that they could have peace only in Him. Though they would be troubled by the world, He had come to overcome the world.

Jesus said that if the world’s hates you, that it hated him first. The fallen world truly does hate genuine followers of Christ. They hate you because you are the light that exposes their deeds of darkness. They hate you because you represent God and they hate God and love their sin. This kind of hostility is a fulfillment of prophecy about the heart of man in his natural state.
