Have you ever found yourself in the a tight spot where you lied to save yourself from getting in trouble? Maybe you lied to be noble- to save a friend from getting in trouble. Or maybe you lied to save a person from hurting and heart ache. Or what about the phrase we have all heard and probably even thought or said ourselves, “What they don’t know won’t hurt them.”

If we lie in these situations, have we really sinned? I mean we are doing our best to remove pain from a person, so aren’t we helping? Doesn’t that make it ok?

What if lying had nothing to do with finding a loop hole for when it is right to not tell the truth, but it was about the condition of the heart and knowing who the Truth is.

“Why is profanity wrong? Aren’t words just words? How can one word be a bad and another one be good, its just a sound you make.”

While this might sound logical. Logic does not always equal truth. If words were just sounds then they wouldn’t mean anything to you and me. But we know that’s not true. Another person’s words can crush you or make you feel like a million bucks in an instant. When we speak, we are communicating to another person what is within us. We are communicating the intent of our hearts. So maybe a better question than, “Why is profanity wrong?” You should ask yourself the question, “What is the intent of my heart when I speak?

Don’t do this…Don’t do that… So often we look at christianity as a list of rules and it seems so limiting. Its almost like God is doing his best to make our life no fun. Some of us are left asking the question, “But why???” and it seems like for one reason or another, there is never anyone who can answer our questions. For some, the limitations cause us to walk aways from the rules and christianity because they don’t make sense or line up with our fleshly desires.

But what if there were answers? What if there were real reasons that God said, “You shall not…” What if the rules were not limitations but rather protection from harming yourself. Would you walk away then or obey them to protect yourself?
