Believe... Kindness/Goodness

With kindness and goodness we continue our series on the fruit of the Spirit. God's nature is kindness and goodness and the importance of this fruit should not be minimized. Kindness is a word, used in the Old Testament, to declare that God is good. It is the outflow of tender loving deeds... ways that produce mercy. The Bible talks about goodness in the context of specific actions taken for the purposes of producing a good outcome. Developing kindness and goodness is a discipleship issue... the often difficult, time consuming work of recognizing old patterns of sinful behavior, and turning away from them toward living according to God's plan. Jesus modeled and taught goodness and kindness and as we learn them we move into a positive, life-changing cycle.

HERstory... Bibleville Beginnings

Lucretia Hughes helped start Bibleville in the inner city of Saskatoon 18 years ago, beginning with 11 children! She will share about those first months of The Rock Church's outreach to children, how it affected her, and the journey since as Jesus walked with Lucretia through a year of deep losses of her husband and mother.  

Each month HERstory brings together women to hear real life testimonies of God's power in women's lives. We join together in fellowship, and in support of The Rock Church's ministries to children and youth. Although we cannot join together at The Rock Church location for this month's HERstory, we invite you to come together online, to hear this inspiring testimony and experience The Rock Church's online version of HERstory.

Holy Spirit... Personal God or Genie in a Bottle?

Holy Spirit has come to be in us, on us, and around us, for every time, in every way, and every day for His glory and purposes. He comforts, guides and directs,and transforms us into the image of Christ. He empowers, appoints leaders, confirms God's word, sanctifies, knits us together, fills us with praise, emboldens, communicates love, infuses joy, seals, keeps and secures us! Our potential is met when we are full of God. Seek Him today. He is a gift. He comes within when we put our faith in Him, and wants to come upon us for power for word and deed...

Believe... Patience

Patience is never required when life is flowing smooth like silk. Only when something stands between me and my desires, is this fruit of the Spirit required. Patience is more than just waiting. It is waiting without complaining while in a state of discomfort.  This may involve self-control, humility and even generosity--a complex of godly virtues. When we are impatient with others--their attitude, their getting ahead faster than us, their actions that irk us--have we CONSIDERED them? Their needs? Struggles? Do I see that God is at work in others? I cannot change anyone..ONLY God can. Jesus sees us both as we are AND as we yet will be. God's great patience is aimed squarely at us.  Don't be surprised that you are required to wait, but believe that God is actively working...in you and in others. Practice the discipline of patience.

Believe... Hope

It is impossible to cope without hope. But often we look for hope in the wrong places... in people, riches, governments, idols--things that give false hope. Ultimately these result in no hope. True hope is found only in God... God hope. Hope is only as good as the power and character of the one who offers it--our Saviour Jesus Christ, who sent Holy Spirit to live in us, comfort us, and give us real hope.

Believe... Self-Control

God desires all of us to have self-control over things that can destroy us and others. The writer of Proverbs places options before us, clearly showing the virtue and benefit of self-control.

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope--the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Titus 2:11-13

HERstory... In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day

SHOW LESSBeverley's Story: The Bible tells of a man named Benaiah who on a snowy day, chased a lion down into a pit and killed it. (1 Chronicles 11:22).  

God took Beverley Stroeder on her own journey that included different lions such as physical and mental health challenges, broken marriages, and heartaches in family relationships. While she had many struggles, Beverly learned that Jesus was there in the pit and has been her truest friend and turned sorrow and challenge into blessing.

Believe... Peace

Most of us think of peace as a feeling. We want to trade our anxiety, depression and fear for calming tranquility. There are many harmful and ineffective ways people attempt to achieve this feeling, most notably by using alcohol or drugs. Biblical peace, however, starts not with the feeling of peace but with the root cause of it, meaning a strong and healthy relationship with God and with others. Of course, peace with God is made possible only through the Prince of Peace.

Believe... Joy

God may shower us with blessings and circumstances that bring joy to our lives, but true joy is found not in those things themselves, but in their source. Joy can also be fueled and found in living out God's Word and trusting in the promises God gives us in his Word.

Believe... Love

The Bible is a complex narrative. But what is the big--yet simple--idea behind all the stories and teachings contained in this ancient book? Love--love dominates God's story. First Corinthians 13 provides us with an earnest description of love that resonates throughout Scripture.
