The Rock Family Sermon of the Week episodes

  • Thrones & Dominions | Remember - Pastor Rusty Nelson

Worship can feel like a warm-up before the “real” work of faith, but we see it differently: worship is one of the sharpest weapons we have in spiritual warfare. Pastor Rusty Nelson lays out a clear, challenging definition that cuts through hype and performance: worship is surrender and obedience. When we actually live that out, it doesn’t just change a Sunday service. It changes how we face temptation, fear, distraction, and the constant pressure of a noisy world.

We talk about why the greatest danger to the church isn’t only darkness around us, but deception taking root within us, often through something quieter than rebellion: forgetfulness. Using Scripture from John 4, Nehemiah 9, Psalms, and the story of Ephraim, we explore how remembering God’s works protects the heart from entitlement and keeps gratitude alive. We also connect “the spirit of prophecy” to testimony, because rehearsing what God has done fuels faith for what he can do again.

Then the message gets uncomfortably practical: offence, bitterness, and unresolved conflict can bind praise. Jesus’ call to reconciliation isn’t optional, and forgiveness doesn’t erase memory so much as it removes the power of the wound. We close with a focus check through “remember Lot’s wife,” a reminder of the Holy Spirit’s role in bringing God’s promises back to mind, and a call to return to first love, even on days we only show up by discipline. If this encourages you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find it.

  • Thrones & Dominions - Pastor Scott Silcox

The most dangerous mistake we make with spiritual warfare is starting with darkness instead of starting with Jesus. We kick off our Thrones And Dominions series by building a clear biblical framework for the unseen realm that doesn’t drift into spooky superstition and doesn’t hide behind denial. Our anchor is Colossians 1:15–20, where Paul names the invisible world and then immediately puts it in its proper place: Christ created it, Christ rules it, and Christ is preeminent over every throne, dominion, ruler, and authority.

From there, we zoom out using the “picture frame” idea: what we see is real, but it is not all that is real. That matters when your life feels chaotic, when fear creeps into your home, or when you’re tempted to make everything a demon or pretend nothing spiritual exists. We walk through why Ephesians is written to a spiritually intense city, how believers are seated with Christ in heavenly places, and why “authority is given, control is taken” becomes a turning point for how we respond to pressure.

We also revisit Genesis to show how temptation often comes through partial truth, eye gates, and the hunger to be “wise” on our own terms. The goal isn’t a neat 50-50 balance between physical and spiritual explanations; the goal is discernment. We talk candidly about prayer and fasting, why they quiet the flesh and sharpen spiritual awareness, and how real maturity produces compassion, not anger or fear driven tactics.

If you want clarity, peace, and a stronger confidence in the authority of Jesus, press play, then subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review that helps more people find the series. What part of life do you need discernment for right now?

  • Oh When The Saints | Gather - Pastor Scott Silcox

We challenge the idea that church is optional by showing why God moves in a unique way when believers gather with unity, testimony, and worship that puts Him at the centre. We connect 2 Chronicles 5, Acts 2, and Ephesians 2 to call us back to reverence, shared faith, and Spirit-empowered witness.

    • The responsibility to gather and why it is not just a preference
    • The contrast between consumer mentality and covenant community
    • Solomon’s temple dedication as a picture of preparation and obedience
    • Testimony as “spoils” that build faith across generations
    • Healing stories and why they matter to the whole room
    • Carrying God’s presence with reverence and intention
    • Unity in worship and why “no solos” protects God’s glory
    • preparing the house while trusting God to fill it
    • Pentecost as God filling the gathered church with power
    • Living stones built together into God’s dwelling place

  • Oh When The Saints | Go - Pastor Scott Silcox

We challenge ourselves to stop treating church like a place to consume and start living on mission as people sent by God. We unpack why the seed must move, why grace goes ahead of us, and why reconciliation is the core message we carry everywhere we go.

    • Aiming for maturity rather than one-off spiritual highs
    • Hunger for God as the environment where the Holy Spirit moves
    • The call to go beyond comfort and beyond the four walls
    • Learning from Norman Borlaug that movement reveals reach
    • Acts 11 reframed as scattering that becomes planting
    • Recognising God uses us in the field we did not choose
    • Refusing a political gospel and extending the gospel to all
    • Trusting the Holy Spirit has prepared hearts ahead of us
    • 2 Corinthians 5 identity as new creations and ambassadors
    • Carrying the ministry and message of reconciliation
    • Letting go of offence and staying focused on mission
    • Romans 10 urgency and beauty of being sent with good news

  • Oh When The Saints | Build - Pastor Christian Lake

We challenge the way believers label themselves and reclaim the New Testament identity of saints as something received, not achieved. We unpack what it really means to build the church without chasing a personal platform, and we invite you to bring your gift into the house Jesus is building.

    • Saints as a New Testament identity regardless of past behaviour
    • Revival versus roots and why both formation and the Spirit matter
    • Building projects as a metaphor for spiritual maturity and mission
    • The Tower of Babel as building for our own name
    • The church as God’s plan to reclaim the nations
    • Serving without entitlement and trusting the Lord to build
    • Spiritual gifts as open-ended and meant to edify the body
    • Hospitality and encouragement as powerful gifts in real life
    • Unique gifts that are not irreplaceable and why love matters most
    • Building for Jesus’ name and leaving a legacy we may never see

  • Oh When The Saints | Obey - Pastor Scott Silcox

We move from belief and audacious prayer to the step that proves faith is real: obedience that goes all the way to completion. Using John 2 at the wedding in Cana, we challenge ourselves to stop hiding behind safe prayers and start doing whatever Jesus tells us, even when we do not have all the details.

    • Belief as sitting with Jesus in rest rather than striving
    • Prayer as bold, audacious asking instead of safe requests
    • Obedience as the necessary response when God speaks
    • Mary’s posture of trust and the line “Do whatever he tells you”
    • Why Jesus uses purification jars and what the sign points to
    • The cost of completing obedience when it feels slow and tiring
    • Discovering deeper dimensions of Jesus only through obedience
    • Leadership that notices problems without seeking credit
    • God’s ability to redeem time and restore what feels lost
    • Communion as remembrance of Jesus’ obedience to the cross

  • Oh When The Saints | Pray - Pastor Scott Silcox

We challenge ourselves to stop circling faith with anxious habits and start putting real weight on God through persistent prayer. We learn that the greatest gift of prayer is not an answer but access to Jesus, and we practise intercession together for what matters most.

    • Faith as a seated posture of trust rather than restless anxiety
    • Persistent prayer as a muscle built through delay, disappointment and endurance
    • The power of a praying mother and bold intercession for family
    • Drawing near with confidence from Hebrews 4 and trusting God’s character
    • Prayer maturity shifting from selfish asks to aligned surrender
    • Hannah’s “pour it out” and prayers that meet God’s bigger purpose
    • Mary’s “here I am” and how surrender changes our walk and preparation
    • Luke 18 persistence and refusing to confuse unanswered with unheard
    • Saint Monica and Augustine as proof that intercession outlives resistance
    • Confronting prayer fatigue and choosing to lay hold again

  • Oh When The Saints | Believe - Pastor Scott Silcox

We challenge the way we use the word “saints” and reclaim it as an identity Jesus gives, even while we are still growing through sanctification. We push belief past religious talk and into real trust, where we put the weight of our lives on Christ instead of admiring faith from a distance.

    • Stained glass as a picture of shared witness and the church telling one story together
    • “Saint” as identity received rather than achievement earned
    • Sanctification as an ongoing process without self-disqualification
    • Resisting the religious spirit that turns faith into a scorecard
    • Praying for the people we serve and shifting focus from “my next” to the harvest around us
    • Fruit, good works, and a life that becomes a credible public witness
    • Restoration and excellence as a visible testimony to the community
    • Faith defined by Hebrews 11 and the call to please God through trust
    • The chair illustration and why belief requires action and surrendered weight

  • All In, All Flame | Through The Church - Pastor Scott Silcox

We ask what God thinks about the church and let Ephesians reset our assumptions, our complaints, and our sense of purpose. We move from consuming church to building it together, choosing unity, maturity, and spiritual strength as the body of Christ.

    • Challenging the habit of letting culture define the church for us
    • Comparing the church to an engagement ring that signals a promise
    • Walking through Ephesians to show the church as God’s plan from the beginning
    • Describing believers as citizens and stones joined into a Spirit-filled temple
    • Explaining manifold wisdom as light through stained glass
    • Reframing the church as a testimony even to spiritual powers and darkness
    • Calling leaders to equip and believers to work the ministry

  • All In, All Flame | Pastor Leisa Nelson

We pursue unrecognizable transformation by surrendering fully to Jesus so His image is restored in us through the cross and the fire. We challenge ourselves to stop settling for being near the flame and instead remain in God’s presence until His fragrance becomes the evidence on our lives.

    • All in and all flame as the fruit of one surrender
    • Restoration of Christ’s image through the cross, the Spirit, and the purifying fire
    • Kingdom carriers who release something into every room
    • The fragrance of Christ as evidence of victory and intimacy
    • The bonfire picture of staying close enough to carry the smell
    • Blessing versus intimacy and the danger of spectator faith
    • Knowing Jesus by experience and encountering Him in suffering
    • Denying self as refusing to follow yourself
    • The cross as surrender that keeps our hands occupied with mercy, humility, and obedience
    • The cross and the flame as completing works that make transformation inevitable
