  • Why Church? | Part 6 - Why New Humanity?

We live in an age of extraordinary division. We no longer simply disagree with people who see the world differently—we increasingly struggle to coexist with them. But is the church meant to be any different?

In Ephesians 2, Paul describes something extraordinary that Jesus accomplished through the cross. He didn't simply teach reconciliation or encourage people to be more accepting. He broke down the walls of hostility that divide us and created an entirely new humanity.

In this message, Alistair explores why division is more than a cultural problem, how our attempts to create belonging can actually deepen hostility, and how Jesus offers something radically different. Through Scripture, baptism and communion, we're invited to be formed into a community defined not by our differences, but by our shared identity in Christ.

Because the church isn't simply a gathering of people who believe the same things. We're called to be a visible demonstration of the reconciling love of Jesus.

  • Why Church? | Part 5 - Why Serve? (Be Rich)

Giving money can make an incredible difference in someone's circumstances, but serving invites us into something deeper. It brings us face to face with people, challenges our assumptions and allows us to see beyond the needs to the human beings experiencing them.

In Matthew 14, Jesus challenges his disciples to do more than recognise a problem or send people somewhere else for help. He invites them to take responsibility and get involved.

In this message, Daniel explores how distance can lead to oversimplification and judgment, while proximity develops compassion, humility and understanding. Through Jesus' example, we're reminded that God didn't love humanity from a distance. He entered our world, lived among us and gave his life for us.

As we continue our Be Rich season, we're invited to do the same: move beyond simply giving our resources to giving our time, stepping outside our comfort zones and serving people who may never be able to return the favour.

Because serving doesn't just do something for others. It does something in us.

  • Why Church? | Part 4 - Why Give? (Be Rich)

    Why give?

We live in a culture that constantly asks, “What’s my return on investment?” When we have extra money, time or resources, our instinct is often to hold onto it or use it to make our own lives more comfortable.

But Jesus offers us a radically different way to live.

In 1 Timothy 6, we’re challenged not to put our trust in money, but to be rich in good works, generous to those in need and ready to share. In this message, Alistair explores how generosity confronts our assumption that everything that comes to us must be for us—and how using our extra for the good of others allows us to participate in bringing God’s Kingdom into our city.

As part of Be Rich, we have an opportunity to put this into practice together: giving generously and partnering with local organisations already doing life-changing work in our community.

  • Why Church? | Part 3 - Why The Flock?

What should we do when church leaders disappoint us—or when spiritual authority has been abused?

In John 10, Jesus doesn’t ask us to blindly trust religious leaders. Instead, he gives us a picture of trustworthy spiritual leadership by calling himself the Good Shepherd: the shepherd who knows his sheep, protects them and willingly lays down his life for them.

In this message, Daniel explores Jesus’ vision for a healthy church: trustworthy shepherds who feed, protect and care for God’s people; willing people who trust, follow and participate; and Jesus remaining the Chief Shepherd over everyone. Rather than choosing between abusive authority and isolated independence, we’re invited to become a healthy flock centred on Jesus.

  • Why Church? | Part 1 - Why Bother?

The church has baggage. Hypocrisy, failure and genuine hurt have left many asking: why bother? Daniel Indradjaja takes that question seriously and explores what Jesus actually intended the church to be. Far more than a Sunday service or something to consume, the church is a community being formed by Jesus and sent to make a difference. Discover why Jesus hasn’t given up on His church—and why He invites ordinary people like us to move from critics and consumers to active participants in renewing a broken world.

  • Shepherd of the City | Part 6 - The Shepherd of Isolation

We’ve never been more connected, yet so many of us have never felt more alone. In this Father’s Day message, Daniel Indradjaja explores Psalm 23 and the lie that isolation tells us: that we’re unwanted, unloved and on our own. But the Good Shepherd doesn’t watch from a distance. His goodness and love pursue us, and in Jesus, God came to dwell among us. Discover why belonging isn’t found in a bigger network, but in a Shepherd who already knows your name, moves towards you and gives you a permanent place in His family.

  • Shepherd of the City | Part 4 - The Shepherd of Fear

Fear makes a terrible shepherd. It promises control, certainty and safety, yet often leaves us anxious, exhausted and isolated. Through Psalm 23:4, Chloe explores what it means to follow Jesus through life’s darkest valleys. While God doesn’t promise a life without fear, pain or uncertainty, He promises His presence through it all. Discover how staying close to the Good Shepherd, walking with community and resting in Jesus’ victory can give us comfort and confidence when fear threatens to take the lead.

  • Shepherd of the City | Part 3 - The Shepherd of Relativism

We’re constantly told to “live your truth” and follow whatever path feels right. But what if the path we choose can’t actually take us where we need to go? Through Psalm 23, Alistair explores the difference between following the shepherd of relativism and trusting Jesus as the Shepherd who knows the terrain, the destination and the way forward. Discover why Jesus doesn’t simply hand us rules or leave us to figure life out ourselves—he restores us, walks with us and lovingly guides us along the right paths.
