First things first, you NEED to see MONTE live because their on-stage energy is fantastic. So when the band says that they wanted to translate the experience of their energetic live show as much as possible on this record, so much so that they tracked all of the rhythm sections live, you need to believe them.
Just who is MONTE? MONTE is a power rock trio from New York City. MONTE blends hard rock, punk and classic metal with catchy hooks to deliver an original yet classic sound. Fronted by guitarist and vocalist Caitlin Montclare, Meghan Rose on bass, and Ismael Baiz on drums. Keep up to date on everything MONTE at their website.

Hosted by Matt Attack, The Rodent Hour plays independent rock ‘n’ roll from Brooklyn & beyond. The show features interviews with independent musicians and combines those interviews with a curated playlist of music. The Rodent Hour has conducted interviews with over 235 unique artists from places such as Detroit (MI), Durham (NC), Nashville (TN), Scranton (PA), Philadelphia (PA), Atlanta (GA), Denver (CO), Evansville (IN), Portland (OR), London (UK), Toronto (ON), Halifax (NS), Stockholm (SE), Dublin, (IE), Glasgow (SCT), Perth (AU) and, of course, Brooklyn.
It took over 235 guests on The Rodent Hour but we finally did it! We had a guest who creates music that is similar in nature to chamber music or orchestral music because of the introduction of themes and movements during their songs. And it just so happens that it was done by Brooklyn's very own "Clouds Taste Satanic", an instru-metal, post-demonic, doom band.

As a rule I do not write reviews nor do I create year-end lists for the music that I listen to. (As a former guest once said, "Being featured on the show is in itself a positive review so why bother writing one?")
Having said that the latest release by Tuff Sunshine on Declared Goods is a pretty outstanding album. Don't believe me? Here's what real critics say about "Dig Deeper, Peanut":
‘Dig Deeper, Peanut’ is a surprisingly warming record. A gentle hug of a record that wears its influences on its sleeve, but sounds truly original. A punk-rock record album with heart and soul. Lots and lots of soul. - Music Existence
"A soulful, soul-filled album like none other released in 2019." - Music News

The Lord Calverts are an explosive garage rock/power pop quintet from the New York City who deliver true American roots rock: fast, nasty, catchy and rude. The band have been playing relentlessly at clubs and dives in Manhattan and Brooklyn, generating a lot of buzz for their incendiary energy, unpredictability and undeniable joy.

Slut Magic are an alternative/indie/riot grrrl band from Brooklyn and they recently completed their "Going Down on America" tour, an 11-day tour that they completed in a limo. Nice!
Here's what Scary Black said about the band - "they were all sweethearts, super friendly fucking people, and they're more than welcome to come back to Louisville anytime." and "their set was tight as hell".
The band is also welcome in Birmingham anytime they like. According to Boss Rush "Slut Magic sounded great and put on a great show! The crowd really dug them! We’d have them back anytime. It was a great show all around."
What more do you want to convince you that you need Slut Magic in your life.

The playlist for this show was inspired by a road trip that my wife and I took to the Alberta Rockies this summer with our cocker spaniels, Wanda & Jackson. Our pups did an amazing job being ambassadors for the breed, and for rescue dogs in general, while I did my best to be an ambassador for the independent artists that I've featured on The Rodent Hour.
So many of the small towns that we stopped in featured three things - an independent brewery, a cool independent coffee shop and amazing theatre marquees. Of course I couldn't help but think of all of the great bands that we've featured on our show and how I'd love to see their name in lights in these smaller centers because I know that if more people were able to hear their music that they would become as big of a fan as I am.

Brooklyn experimental punks Cinema Cinema present their fifth full-length, CCXMD. Delving into ambient and atmospheric free-jazz territories, the duo have invited reed aficionado Matt Dariau to join the group for a collaborative, entirely improvised affair.
Here's what the experts at Aural Aggression have to say about CCXMD:
“CINEMA CINEMA are following their creative urges and aren’t dictated by any perception of fan demands or dictates: they do what they do because they’re driven to do it, and certainly not because of any label or trend. And this is why CINEMA CINEMA are such an essential band, and why they’ll endure. They don’t give a fuck about what you’re into. They do their own thing. And that is art.”
Our show playlist mixes tracks by Teen Mortgage on King Pizza Records, Skull Practitioners on In The Red Recordings, and Triggercut from Germany with three brand new tracks from CCXMD, the band's latest release.

Queer country trailblazers Karen & the Sorrows have been featured in Billboard, WNYC’s The Takeaway, and Rolling Stone, who described them as “Dolly Parton fronting Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers.” Noisey called the band “exactly what country music needs right now.” For the last eight years, they have also been at the heart of a growing queer country community, running the Gay Ole Opry Festival and the Queer Country Quarterly, and creating space for people who love country music even if country music doesn’t always love them back.
With the Sorrows’ third album, Guaranteed Broken Heart, which will be released on October 18th, singer-songwriter Karen Pittelman has struck off in new directions. While many of the songs still center around the dark, country-rock twang that Pittelman loves, she also dove more deeply into both ‘90s country and string-band inspired sounds.
