The boys kick off the pod with extreme elation as the United States Men's team won Olympic Gold for the first time since the 1980 Miracle on ice. We recap the incredible 41 save performance by goaltender Connor Hellebyuck who was the backbone of the team for almost the entirety of the game. In dramatic fashion it was once again decided in Overtime off an odd man rush goal scored by Jack Hughes. Hughes gave an emotional post-win interview and spoke to just how close the team was during this Olympic Journey. The honored fallen teammate Johnny Gaudreau by skating around the rink with his jersey and including his children in the team photo. Unfortunately, it wasn't all roses, as the internet conversation quickly was redirected to criticism of the team's reaction to a controversial joke made by President Trump. We both discuss the reasons for why it was unacceptable but also that the focus needs to be put back on the accomplishments of both the Men's and Women's teams rather than creating a political narrative that takes away from historic wins. Finland would go on to win Bronze yet again, McDavid becomes the first to hit 100 points again in just 60 games, Matthew Schaefer scored twice to become the highest goal scoring 18-year-old defenseman in NHL history and is furiously chasing down Brian Leetch's rookie record of 23 goals. Sidney Crosby & Mikko Rantaanen both placed on IR and will be out of action for a extended period of time following the Olympics. The Penguins swap defenseman Brett Kulak for Samuel Girard and ad 2nd round pick from Colorado. Brandon Bussi signs a 3-year extension with the Canes and Jeff Skinner's time in San Jose is over after being bought out. We close out the episode with a preview of the Minnesota State High School Tournament and who we think will be hosting the championship trophy come Saturday.
