  • EP14 Lydia McCarthy-Keen
Lydia McCarthy-Keen is UK’s most ethical wholesale diamond dealer and leading expert in the lab grown diamonds. Every sale she makes provides a prosthetic limb to an amputee of Blood Diamond victim of which there are estimated 27,000 West Africa.
Who’s your one person that you know, if you had, if you had them on speed dial for any advice? Who would it be?
Probably Sheryl Sandberg, I think she’s she just epitomizes female strength because she’s working in a male dominated space. And honestly, she just takes so much crap. It’s like she can’t say anything without getting a load of crap for it. And she just says it anyway. And I love that.

Key highlights and tips in the interview:
    On starting your business
I would suggest that anybody starting a business starts with finding out What you didn’t enjoy in your day yesterday? What problem would you solve that you have had? And if you can fix that, then the chances are, there’s millions of other people that didn’t enjoy the same thing. So if you can fix that type of dynamic, then you’ve got a business.
    On going the extra mile
There was an old man sitting next to me who I’m sure couldn’t even read the letter that I was reading, but he could see the smile on my face. And he put his hand on my shoulder. And he said, son always go the extra mile, because there’s less traffic there.

    Business is Personal
“Do we want to see the glossy side or the real side of people?”
