Join Mario, Jerald, and Uncle Anthony “Rizo” Robinson on The Rooted in Love Show as they recap the 2025 Uncle Art Camp — the challenges, the unforgettable bonds formed between uncles and kids, and the resilience of the community when things went sideways. They discuss Rizo’s injury — a torn leg muscle during the annual Uncle vs. Nephews basketball game that required surgery, left him unable to walk for the first few weeks of recovery, and kept him out of work until late October 2025 — and how organizers, volunteers, and the Aunties adapted to keep the camp running. Highlights include the beloved Junk Art project led by high school teacher Traci Gross Shuster, creativity and teamwork from the kids, one-on-one mentorship moments that built confidence, and the critical behind-the-scenes support from the Aunties. The hosts also reflect on lessons learned — improving medical readiness for athletic events, formalizing backup roles, and preserving the camp’s uncle-led daily activities while expanding teacher-led creative opportunities — all rooted in gratitude for the families, volunteers, and young people who make the camp possible.
