What is joy? Is joy the same as happiness? How do I find true joy?
We’re rounding off the Philippians series with a bonus episode on joy. We discuss the differences between joy and happiness and look at how we express joy. We discuss the source of our joy and challenging those who aren’t joyful. We also talk about choosing joy and how CS Lewis viewed joy. We finish by looking at how some search for joy in materialism and relationships but Christians are called to find joy in Christ, God's word and the spiritual disciplines.

How was Paul able to be content no matter the circumstances he was facing? What did Paul mean when he said, 'I can do all things through him who strengthens me'?
In this episode we discuss the concept of contentment as mentioned in Philippians chapter four. We explore the source of Paul's contentment and the idea of finding contentment both in times of plenty and times of need. We look at the gift which Paul received from the Philippians and discuss the importance of generosity and giving. We finish by considering whether it's ever acceptable to take a Bible verse out of context in the way we quote and apply it to our lives.

How do we live as citizens of heaven? What do Christians boast in? What conditions do we place on Christianity?
Today we discuss Philippians 3, looking at how Paul calls us to rely solely on faith in Christ, not what we've done. We also look at Paul counting all of his Jewish heritage as loss compared to the priceless gain of knowing Christ. We finish with a conversation about the contrast between living as enemies of the cross of Christ and living as citizens of heaven.

What does Paul mean by ‘fear and trembling’? How do we live for Jesus in our messy world?
Today we discuss Philippians 2.12–30. We break down what it means to work out our faith with fear and trembling, emphasising the active nature of the Christian faith and the need for ongoing, sometimes costly, obedience.
We talk about the challenge to live for Christ amidst a 'warped and crooked generation' and explore the similarities between Paul’s practical advice in Philippians 2 and Romans 12.
We finish with a look at how Timothy and Epaphroditus embody what Paul has been urging the Philippian believers to do, noting their selfless service for the sake of Christ and for others.

How can the gospel advance despite bad circumstances and our limitations? What did Paul mean when he wrote, ‘to live is Christ and to die is gain’ and how can we adopt this attitude?
In this episode we discuss Philippians 1.12–26, focusing on the theme of spreading the gospel no matter what trials we face, and how we can grasp every opportunity to live for Christ.
We talk about God using our struggles for the advancement of his kingdom and discuss the importance of preaching Christ sincerely, not out of envy or selfish ambition. We reflect on the challenges of living a Christ-centred life and the opportunities for service that come with that.
