The NBA season is a long, slow ride, and because of the grind of an 82 game schedule, the excitement usually doesn’t pick up until around Christmas, when what I used to call the “real season” would begin. But not this year, as the NBA was out the gate like a Derby horse, full speed from first tip. Maybe it’s the youth movement in the league; all the talented young players with fresh legs just ready to get out there and show their stuff. It certainly seems that way, as I pointed out last season that with all of the young talent in the league, the Association is on the verge of another Golden Age, and that prospect couldn’t be more exciting. The NFL is back! I’m not sure where it went exactly, but based on all of the talk about low ratings, and given my position that there are no great teams in the NFL this season, I was kinda worried that maybe, like Bill Simmons’ HBO show, RIP, the networks might have panicked and cancelled the games in search of wider viewership. But I turned on Redzone on Sunday and there it was, and what a day of football we got. Back and forth nail biters all afternoon, and if that doesn’t draw an audience, nothing will. Plus, the Clippers are just plowing through the schedule early in the NBA season, and have taken their game to a new level.
