And then Charlie's life begins to fall apart. He campaigns for the presidency and fails...and Senator Martin begins to learn that politics in an era of spin, marketing, and vicious personal assaults can be as treacherous - and life-threatening - as combat was.
Finally, Charlie Martin must confront the two greatest challenges in his life - a political opponent who has no scruples and a dazzling, unconventional woman who loves him but is appalled by his life's work. Charlie's dilemma is one that has come to haunt contemporary American politics: Is it possible to be a good politician and a good man? Can you live in the public glare and still construct a habitable life?

Don't Bother
I've found very few books to which I found no value and simply could not listen and extract something from it. The Running Mate gets added to this list. I've stuggled to listen to the first 4 hours, but only the first 15 minutes had any value. Because of my interest in politics I found the description intriguing. Trust me, that's the only thing that IS intriguing about this book. Add to the boring plot (if you can call it that) that the audio is poor quality. At some points it's very loud, other points it's very soft. Of course we are lucky we don't hear the reader of the book snoring. Boring, boring, boring. Where's the plot? What's interesting about this book? Audio should give back the listener credit for anyone who downloaded this book. I'm moving on to something more interesting.
Need more...
This is one of those books where I want more. What is next for Charlie Martin? Does Jack Stanton get a second term? Does Moustaffa get his name cleared? Mr. Klien - don't leave me dangling!
