CITY WATCH

• Winter solstice (Dec 21) marks the longest night of the year; Sacramento County urges community support during cold, wet weather.
• Donations accepted through Jan 5 at Warren E. Thornton Youth Center. High-need items: blankets, unopened hygiene items, winter clothing, socks, hats, gloves, dog food. Men’s clothing especially needed.
