In today’s Sacramento Brief:

• Oak Park SWAT Standoff — Sacramento Police responded to a major police incident Thursday in the 3300 block of 12th Avenue. Armored vehicles, SWAT teams, and crisis negotiators were on scene while officers worked to safely bring a suspect connected to a shooting into custody. Updates are expected as the investigation continues.

• City Rebates for Water-Saving Yards — Sacramento residents can learn how to receive up to $3,000 in rebates for converting grass lawns to drought-tolerant landscaping and up to $800 for irrigation upgrades during a free City webinar on March 25. Water conservation specialists will explain how to apply and avoid common mistakes.

• Weather — Friday will be partly sunny with a high near 81 degrees. Friday night turns mostly cloudy with lows around 52.

• Community Book Sale — The Friends of the Arden-Dimick Library are hosting a community book sale March 13–14 at the Arden-Dimick Library. Saturday features a $6 bag sale where visitors can fill a grocery bag with gently used books. Proceeds support Sacramento Public Library programs.

• Garden Like a Farmer Workshop — Soil Born Farms American River Ranch in Rancho Cordova is hosting a gardening workshop Saturday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The class covers techniques to improve plant health and crop yields, including preventing tomato rot and low fruit production. Admission is $30.
