Sacramento News

  • Multiple shootings across Sacramento early Wednesday injured an Uber driver and forced the temporary closure of Highway 160 and southbound Interstate 5 near Richards Boulevard.
  • Sacramento Police say the incident began around 5:30 a.m. near Dos Rios and Vine Streets, close to Smythe Academy of Arts and Sciences Middle School.
  • Investigators say a sedan traveling along Highway 160 near Northgate Boulevard was shot at before the driver exited the freeway and called 911.
  • The 51-year-old Uber driver, a father of two, was transported to UC Davis Medical Center and is now listed in stable condition.
  • California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation because the shooting occurred on a freeway.
  • Authorities say a person of interest is now in custody.

U.S. Military / Sacramento

  • A Sacramento Army reservist, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert M. Marzan, is believed to have been killed in an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait, according to the Pentagon.
  • Marzan served with the 103rd Sustainment Command and was among six U.S. service members killed when a fortified tactical operations center was struck.
  • California flags are flying at half-staff at the State Capitol in his honor.

City Watch – Public Health

Sacramento County Public Health has confirmed two measles cases in unvaccinated children, bringing California’s 2026 measles total to 26 cases.

  • One case was linked to travel to South Carolina, where an outbreak is underway.
  • The second exposure source is still under investigation.
  • Health officials say a potential exposure occurred at Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center on March 2nd between 6:55 and 7:14 a.m.
  • Doctors say the MMR vaccine is about 97% effective after two doses.
