What starts with following Cheltenham Town through the lower leagues turns into a life spent chasing football grounds around the world.
In this episode of The Saints, the City, and Me, we’re joined by Michele Mas, whose love of football, travel and live sport has taken her to all 92 English Football League clubs, countless European grounds and, eventually, every NFL stadium in the United States.
Michele talks us through the journey, from finishing the 92 before moving to France, memorable nights at places like Anfield and the old Upton Park, and why some stadiums have a soul that simply can’t be recreated in a modern arena. We also swap stories about the intimidating side of English football, from hostile away days to getting chased through Wolverhampton and Cardiff.
Then the conversation crosses the Atlantic.
Michele explains how NFL Europe and a rain-soaked game in London first sparked her interest in American football, before a trip to Foxborough opened the door to a whole new way of combining football, travel and exploring America. One stadium became two, two became a few… and eventually she and Matt had visited all 32.
And somewhere along the way, New Orleans happened.
From her father's cassette of New Orleans jazz to discovering the Saints after Hurricane Katrina, a Monday Night Football experience and that first unforgettable trip to the Superdome, Michele explains how the city gradually pulled her towards the Saints — long before she ever considered herself a serious fan.
We also look ahead to Paris, the Saints' growing international appeal, what France might make of the NFL, and why travelling for football is about so much more than the game itself.
Because for Michele, the destination isn't always the point. It's the stadiums, the cities, the atmosphere, the journeys — and, most importantly, the people you meet along the way.
305 stadiums. 28 countries. 909 games. And apparently, she's still not finished.
