Last year, the media barely reported on the estimated 300,000 to 350,000 Black women being pushed out of the workforce. When it was reported on, it was framed as these women "leaving" the workforce rather than the reality that there were a series of intentional policy choices in both private and public industry that forced them out.I am one of the Black women however who left, by choice. While there is no such thing as a "safe space" on the internet, the fact that two highly visible Black women content creators have been run off social media for the same thing - misogynoir and vitriolic abuse. Misogynoir in media has always existed however the fact it is increasingly prevalent on social media speaks volumes to the ways many use social media to spew anti-Blackness, racism, and hate to Black women on the internet in a time where we have more control of our image and narrative.
