The Save Room episodes

  • Episode 41: Layden's Law of Exchange
Praise the gaming gods, Shawn Layden and Shuhei finally gave cross-play to all of the screaming fans. But Layden giveth and Layden taketh as it was also announced that we would not be getting the annual Playstation Experience this year. This week, Roommates, it's Layden's Law of Equivalent Exchange.
We also follow up to last week's discussion on Telltale Games studio closure, talk Assassin's Creed Origins and our hype for AC Odyssey, dive hard into some Hollow Knight impressions, and Daniel makes Kevin play his game. And for the first time ever, we give you the first official podcast within The Save Room: The Capcom Capcast. This week's episode of the Save Room is surely gonna take you for a ride.
We thank you as always for giving us a listen and being the best of Save Roommates.

  • Save Room Reviews: Marvel's Spider-Man
Look out, Save Roommates--it's your Neighborhood Spidercast! That's right, this week we're going all in for Save Room Reviews and reviewing Marvel's Spider-Man for the Playstation 4. This is a game that we've been looking forward to playing for years now and we can easily say that within minutes of controlling Spider-Man, this game was well worth the wait.
If you're new around here, you should know that our review episodes have a different flow to them (that is to say, almost no coherent flow). We open the episode with some overview and our impressions of the game, but as this episode implies--this is a spoiler cast. The majority of this episode is very spoiler heavy. We make a distinction for what's spoiler-free and what isn't, so if you have not beat the game: web up your ears and do yourself a favor by finishing the story first. When you're all caught up this episode (and our impromptu Spider-Man movie podcast within the podcast) will be awaiting you.
We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it. As it stands, Marvel's Spider-Man is the most fun we've had with a game all year and easily the best Spider-Man game of all time. Spoilers or not, we think you'll agree that it is a standout title.

  • Episode 40: Farewell, Telltale, And Thank You For Everything
This week's episode of The Save Room is indeed a sad one. We mourn the loss of not only Capcom Vancouver, who brought us Dead Rising, but we also say a heavy goodbye to Telltale Games.
In a very unexpected turn of events this past weekend, Telltale laid off 250 of its employees without notice, effectively shutting the studio down and cancelling all projects except one. 250 of the industry's top talent lost their jobs, benefits, and are without severance pay. It is a deeply sad situation and one that is still developing.
We often get stuck on the products we love and don't consider those behind them. The studio's closure begs important questions about unions, game dev crunch, and what we can do to protect talent in this growing industry. While we won't get to see how Clementine's story ends, we do hope that all of those affected bounce back and find new studios to continue their craft with. Their narratives left an important impression on the industry and they will be deeply missed.
It's not all bad this episode though, Roommates. We get plenty hyped over all the Tokyo Game Show news, discuss how every game is made better with a mega buster, and even lose our heads over what should be on the Playstation classic (Kevin won't sleep until Gex returns). It's an emotional rollercoaster, but would you expect anything less?
We thank you as always for you ears and time, and hope this one finds you well.

  • Episode 39: Luigi Lives! (And Other Nintendo Direct News)
Save Roommates, welcome back! A new week means another episode from your favorite soft boys. (Damn, we're getting pretty consistent now, huh?)
This week we go BTS with our workout routines, talk more Spidey, and Kevin goes Total Eclipse of the Tomb with his impressions on Shadow of the Tomb Raider. We also talk about the announced Alan Wake series and dish on Yakuza Studios' newest voyeuristic PI beat down, Judge Eyes (which we're absolutely here for).
We round the episode off with a jam-packed Nintendo Direct and talk about whether their online service is for us, how stoked we are for Katamari Reroll, why we can't take Squall's melancholy on the go with FF8, and so many other Nintendo-centric things.
Also, have we mentioned how stoked we are for Judge Eyes??
As always, thanks for listening and being the best of Save Roommates! If you're down for more of our antics, then be sure to keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming Spider-Man Review coming to you all within the next few days!

  • Episode 37: All These Upcoming Games Are Sure to Punish Our Wallets
Welcome back Save Roommates, good to see you again.
This week's episode covers a lot of hot hot games coming out! Streets of Rage 4. Resident Evil 2. Cyberpunk 2077. Life is Strange 2. DMC 5! SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE!! We're losing our heads over all of these promising titles and crying for how bad our wallets are going to be punished. We couldn't be more excited though.
Additionally, to open this week's episode Kevin and Daniel wanted to first address the shooting at the GLHF Game Bar in Jacksonville Landing over the weekend that took the lives of Eli Clayton and Taylor Roberts and left 10 others critically injured. While we're not experts on the topic and you can take or leave our opinions, this is something that took place amongst our community in our home state. We didn't have too many details at the time of recording, but we wanted to talk about the issue, share our thoughts, and remember and pay respect to the two lost who loved video games as much as we do.
If you want to help, you can donate to the victims and their families over at http://www.gofundme.com/rip-true-and-spot OR you can donate blood at any hospital whether locally in Jacksonville or elsewhere.
As always, thanks for listening and being the best of Save Roommates.

  • Episode 36: The Hot Take Takedown (Mario vs Wario Edition)
Is it just our takes or is it getting hot in The Save Room this week?
While we do give you our typical news and winding gaming spiels, we decided to play with our weekly format and do something different for you Save Roommates--The Hot Take Takedown! We're playing a game and throwing our most divisive and controversial gaming hot takes at each other, a la Twitter style. Good takes will be rewarded a "MARIO" and bad takes are branded with a scathing "WARIO.". We've done a lot of ridiculous things in our two years, but this tops the list.
Special shoutout to all of our new listeners from Amsterdam who devoured our last episode! We're not sure if the term "plagiarism" amounts to some sort of kinky Dutch sex act or if we just pair well with pot clubs, but we're stoked to have caught your attention! Thanks for giving us a listen and sticking out our antics. And to all of our long-term Roommates, we hope this one gives you a good laugh.

  • Episode 35: Plagiarism - It Ain't Cool, Kids.
We ask in these trying times for a moment of silence to pay respect to the life and loss of Luigi Mario, who lost his life due to an occupational hazard last week...thank you.
This week on The Save Room: Kevin is back in the kitchen with Overcooked 2, Daniel is hitting the payload in Overwatch, and we're getting all sorts of hyped for some anticipated upcoming games. We give you the full Super Smash Bros Ultimate Smashdown, the grotesque details on Doom Eternal, and talk more Red Dead Redemption 2. All that topped off by the recent IGN plagiarism fiasco over an employee's Dead Cells review. This week's episode is sure to be an emotional roller coaster of loss, frustration, excitement, praise, and critique.
As always, we want to thank you all for listening and showing us love. You're the best Save Roommates we could ask for.

  • Episode 34: What We'd Want from an Overwatch Sequel
So you survived the Blood Boys Bloodcast, huh? Well welcome to Episode 34, you lucky listeners!
This week on The Save Room, we're back to our regularly scheduled shenanigans. We dish on what we've been playing since the last podcast: Kevin's trying to make MonHun a thing and tackling the Megaman Collection and Daniel is trying to wrap his head around what the heck is going on in Nier Automata. We also scream at Capcom for the thousandth time for a Dino Crisis remake, get stoked for Spider-man, and discuss what we'd want from an Overwatch sequel if Blizzard were to ever do one.
As always, we'd like to thank you guys for tuning in and supporting us whether you've been listening to us here, catching us on Twitch, or keeping up with us on Twitter. You're the reason we do this and we appreciate the hell out of you. Your t-shirt is in the mail.

  • The Blood Boys Bloodcast: A Bloodborne Dissection
You've heard it's murmurings and felt it in your blood and it's finally here! This week the Save Room proudly presents Bloodboys--a Bloodborne dissection. If you're wondering why we're talking about a 3 year old game for an entire episode in 2018--well don't. 1). It's Backlog season and 2). It's a damn good game.
In this episode we go deep into our time with Bloodborne discussing gameplay mechanics, our best strategies, our favorite boss moments, and go mad over the game's deeply engrossing (and grotesque) lore. We also compare it to the other Souls games and how this might be one of the most accessible titles FromSoftware has put out to date. If you were on the fence about this game--let the good blood guide your way.
We had a lot of fun putting this one together and we hope you hunters have as much fun listening to it.
We'd like to thank our sponsors, Soulsborne and Soulslike and their newest brew, Paleblood IPA. It had us feeling limber and kept us hacking and slashing all through the blood frenzy of the night. And of course, thank you all for listening.
