Welcome to the Say My Name Podcast Episode 11!

We had the honor to interview Nanette Ocana, a woman who has a story of survival and perseverance. She lived through childhood sexual abuse. She suffered the consequences of coming out as gay to her Catholic family at 16, and learning to love and accept herself and the value of living a life of honesty. She tells of working through the healing process of abuse, and how God answered her prayers. She describes her health tragedies and being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and Trigeminal nerve pain as an adult. She reached her lowest point while suffering intense pain and depression, but was inspired to “come out” again, as it were, and begin to find ways to heal herself. She achieved her goal and now lives pain free and is currently writing books to inspire and uplift.

She is a woman with a brilliant light and a soul full of universal truth and wisdom.

We are so honored to have Debbie Bauer on Episode 10 of The Say My Name Podcast.

This is a very raw and vulnerable podcast. Debbie shares her journey of healing from her experience of mental and emotional abuse at the hands her parents. She was a victim of Munchausen by Proxy, inflicted by her mother, her entire life.

*Munchausen syndrome by proxy features a caretaker covertly abusing a child by faking or causing symptoms in the victim. Also called factitious disorder, an induced or fabricated illness and is a mental disorder. It is characterized by a feigning or intentional production of physical or mental-health symptoms in another person for the sole purpose of placing the other person in the sick role.

Debbie's story of healing is so profound; and her journey through uncovering the layers of pain and trauma is so beautiful. Debbie is one of the most inspiring women we know. Her strength and her devotion to her children has been the catalyst to her recognition of abuse and the beginning of her healing story.

Her story is fresh and raw, but goes back 18 years when her first child was diagnosed with Autism and an Intellectual Disability. She shares her darkest days of felling like she had failed her son as it grew more and more difficult for her to manage his care as a single mother of two. Jennifer was able to reach out for and accept the help she needed to realize that she was not alone, could let go of that pain and in her words, "rise again." Jeanine is such a brave and amazing woman. We honor her for opening up some of the deepest parts of her self and sharing her story of being a parent of a drug addict.
