Sometimes the greatest stories come from the darkest moments. Acid attacks are one of the cruelest forms of torture in our modern era. It does a near irreversible harm to the victim, and results in years of surgeries and repairs. That’s how today’s story starts. But that isn’t how it ends. 

Hanifa Nakiryowa grew up as the eldest daughter in a Muslim home. As a young mother she was a victim of an acid attack after attempting to leave an abusive marriage. But through the pain she found Jesus.

Today’s guest comes from an auspicious family, not least of all on this podcast. State representative Josh Kail is the son of Karyn Kail from Episode 3, as well as the cousin of the late Brandon Kail from episode 7 and the younger brother of Zach Kail from episode 115. Josh grew up in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, went to school at Geneva, before moving to Beaver County for work. There he eventually became the area’s state representative.
