Ryan and Joel from The Barstool Prophets drove down from Aberdeen, SD this summer and played the Songwriter Showcase. It was a real treat having the guys on the show. We had a lot of fun chatting and their songs are just great.

Janice Gilbert with her song She Can Haul

A beautiful song about a young girl finding her power in the world. She can haul is a shout out to all the country girls that grew up doing things they say only men should do. 

Katie & the Honky Tonks and their song Two Steppin in the Shower

Another empowering female song, she drinks whiskey but still loves a strong man. Love the theme and it's just a fun catchy tune. Well done Honky Tonks.

Tyler Herwig gave us Enough a beautiful song of longing. Painful, powerful. We are big fans of this young man and want to congratulate him and his wife and send our best wishes for a baby boy coming soon!!

Our good buddy Chris Graves stopped in and joined us recently for his first appearance on the Songwriter Showcase. Chris showed off his crooning and crowing skills as he ripped through a variety of genres in this all original set.

He's absolutely one of the best singers in South Dakota and we know you are going to enjoy the musical portions of this show. We are big fans of Chris and are always happy to spend some time with our friend.

Your host Bubba Startz flies solo on an episode of the Songwriter Showcase from Monk's Ale House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It is a pleasure to work in such a wonderful environment for live music and to continue to bring fresh ideas to the table here. 

Bubba and his band Startz and Endz are making a ton of noise all over the Midwest this summer and they just released a new single Building Today on June 21! Things just keep getting better for us here and the band is a big part of that too!!

More from our trip to Four Winds Music and Art Festival in Rapid City June 21, 2024. We had so many awesome conversations we had to break it into two shows and both are full of amazing artists and musicians! Shout out to Nice Enough Entertainment, Mitchell Stafford, Matt Buehner, Tom Whillock and every band/vendor/human that came and threw it down! Four Winds Rapid City was a raving success and we couldn't be more proud of our crew all coming together to celebrate music in a beautiful location.

This was so fun to sit down and make new friends and hear all about them!! We had a blast listening to all the acts and spreading the gospel of The Scene.

My good buddy Lee Klett came and spent the whole day with me in Sioux Falls awhile back and we got to do some really cool stuff while he was here!! One of them was to sit down and record our Songwriter Showcase at Monk's Ale House at 420 E 8th Street in Sioux Falls, SD. 

Lee played us some very personal songs and some new stuff off their upcoming album. It was a blast spending my day with this gentleman and I can't wait til he comes back again.

It was our highest honor to have Bill Payne, co-founder of the band Little Feat, join the show and talk about the bands new album, Sam's Place, and touring again with this revelation of the group. We talk about the band's history since the 60's and Bill's long list of who's who in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that he has played with over the years. We learned how he was a pioneer in using the internet in the 90s to connect with fans and even collaborate with Robert Hunter on a handful of songs. 

This was an unbelievable experience to sit and talk with someone who lived and played with all of our heroes of popular music of the last 6 decades. Thanks to Bill and Little Feat for making a killer blues album and sitting down to talk about it with us. We hope to have Bill back on as our unofficial musical historian in the future. Enjoy the show
