Introduction to The School of Imperfection Podcast

Welcome to The School of Imperfection. I'm your host, Mikie Krisztal. This podcast is a place where we talk to people about how to get by in this complicated world. Everything is changing all the time. Sometimes it can feel like there's no right moves, if you're anything like me. Yet for some, it seems effortless. On this podcast, we'll explore people's realities and hopefully walk away with something learned or a fresh perspective. Worst case, maybe it'll be a little fun. We talk to people who've succeeded, messed up, learned, and created cool things as result. People who were innovators in their industries. Artists, craftsmen, high-powered corporate CEOs, and regular working people doing their best to make the world a better place. Or at least find and share some truth in it. We all have experiences to bring to the table. 

What is The School of Imperfection, you might be asking? Well, it's a 20-year journey of me trying to do creative stuff, failing, selling out, building brands. Having existential crises and eventually realizing that perfectionism was the real villain that I didn't defeat along the way. And at some point I said screw it and I picked up a paintbrush and I started making imperfect art which is an art form that I've been evolving that just allows the freedom of layers and incorporating mistakes to create a kind of messy but beautiful, hopefully, piece of art.

It turns out that people kinda liked it, and I liked not pretending to be perfect. So I started hosting in-person meetups to talk about perfectionism and unpack that through fun little imperfect painting experiences, as well as other collaborative imperfect experiences. But above all else, the School of Imperfection is an invitation to try something new, to find the courage to put yourself out there, even if you don't feel ready.

Our goal is to create a safe space to be weird, imperfect, and human in a place where there doesn't seem to be a lot of public spaces left to do that. Here we're figuring out how we learn, listen, laugh, and create as we all navigate and analyze the human experience together.
