The Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos have had their name since the late 1890s, but the name has drawn ire for being disrespectful to Inuit people. This week’s episode features a conversation with Norma Dunning (@Norma__Dunning), an Inuk PhD student in Indigenous People’s Education at the University of Alberta and the 2018 winner of the Danuta Gleed Award for the book Annie Muktuk and Other Stories. She speaks about the history of the term and why it’s derogatory to the Inuit community.
