Towards the end of the first world war, a German U-boat, SM UB-85, was captured off the shores of Northern Ireland. The sub was found on the surface, its crew on deck, and willingly surrendering. Legend has it that the German soldiers told the crew of the British Patrol boat that they were attacked by a monstrous sea creature, and the sub was damaged beyond repair.
