The SeanGeek Podcast

(2:04) The boys discuss trips out of the house during COVID, customer realities in this new setting, retail environments, harassment, and people travelling during the pandemic.

(12:13) What is happening in schools and what that means to those with kids.

(15:05) Major headlines with Blizzard Entertainment launches a whole conversation on wage disparity. What happened with the company and how does the situation there reflect what is happening in society? Investors, stock holders, and upper management… what do they bring and take away from the table, and what is their impact has on morale, wages, and work ethic. And what does this have to do with Auto-Wreckers? (28:03) As technology improves, should a company remain loyal to their employees? (31:17) When employees are forced out, what steps will a company take, or should they take?

(32:12) Todd McFarlane was a founder of Image Comics, an artist, writer, inker, letterer, and toy maker. Possibly the most famous Comic in the last several decades changed the face of the comic industry when he encouraged a mass walkout on Marvel Comics. Was he a rebel, or was he rebellious? Did he change the industry for the better or the worse? This is a lesson of corporate greed, stifled artistic vision, and ties into the Blizzard story.

(1:00:00) And as it comes up often, we had a little chat about FastFret finally getting 7 Days to Die for the PC.

We call out Michael Petrow from Reel Debaters during the Blizzard talk.

Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men: Having finished the TV series, the boys discuss the show and Comic Factory IV; how comic book shops are the Cheers for the Geek crowd; what is it about the show he loves; why Seanorama never opened his own shop; and what separates Comic Book Shops.

What Happened to LAN Rooms: The boys discuss LAN Rooms and Dungeons and Dragons, what separates them and what similarities there are between them; the discussion ropes in VR rooms, video game rooms, the time Seanorama took dad to one; and what happens now, post COVID to tabletop and Virtual Tabletops; what is the next evolution of both of them, and is there a merging between the two.

Movie Theatres and the Future of Movie Releases: Will New Release go straight to Video on Demand? Should they? COVID has pushed the envelope to the way that the Movie Industry needs to function and how does it compare to when Napster changed the Music Industry?

We refer back to the Streaming Services which we covered in detail in a previous episode here: https://seanorama.podbean.com/e/season-5-episode-12-%e2%80%93-rating-the-music-streaming-services/

Seanorama’s favorite all time comic book character is Marvel’s Union Jack, a hero with a legacy, with 3 different people donning the famous union jack flag. Always severely under-represented in the comics, the character’s few appearances always straddled the line between grounded stories and the supernatural. I explain away why I was drawn to the character, the retrofitted history of the character, the treasure hunt search for all of his appearances, the blue collar aspect of the character, the script for the comic I wrote, and the various action figures released.

Leigh Filbert, musician, songwriter and producer comes on the show to talk about his career in the Winnipeg music scene. From Squash, through Filbatross The Amazing Spider Band and Volume, Leigh has had a prominent voice of the Winnipeg songwriting and music scene. We share some stories about the creation of the Amazing Spider Band, the breakdown of Volume, and his beginnings in the Winnipeg Music Scene.

Let’s not be subtle here, Leigh has long been on Seanorama’s bucket list of people he has wanted to meet, and his work with Volume and the Amazing Spider Band puts Leigh’s work in the upper echelon of the best Winnipeg music has to offer.

This episode includes never before released material by Leigh.

All songs written by Leigh Filbert and are used with his permission (except for the SeanGeek podcast intro, written and performed by Todd McGinity and used with his permission).

Sunshine*; Drive You Home, Simplicity*, Tragedy* (*previously unreleased)

There are a great of Leigh’s music here, including a live set from Volume playing at the Planetarium:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQzgt_WLOfk&list=PLnLlvPey9tZl9F44hJS1a6uOC6ymqOcQv

This year has been brutal on so many fronts from COVID19, police brutality and JK Rowling. Will this be the year that history remembers and the year where everything changes forever? Will we unite or divide?

I am not alone in being emotionally wrung out. We all are frustrated and angry, anxious and depressed, and for every single light that shines through, another event comes up to shake our foundations.

Seanorama offers his thoughts on getting through it and ends the episode with the song Broken by Sean and Todd McGinity.

Special shout out to Hugo from Hugo’s Posts episode (below) that inspired this episode.
