"You could have all the money in the world, and you are still a no-good, miserable son of a bitch, and don't you forget it."
After a couple of months away from Sir Ridley, we're back on the watch series to discuss his OTHER 2017 picture, ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD. Most folks probably remember the film as a failed piece of Oscar bait, and the infamous decision to re-cast Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer and re-shoot his scenes with only a few weeks to spare. But it turns out this 'based on a true story' drama is actually pretty interesting! Simon and John discuss the film's story, it's troubled production, and the real-life history behind the Getty family.
Before that, we go through some news of the week and some recent watches.
Next week, we'll stay on the watch series and discuss THE LAST DUEL.

"Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads."
This week we discuss the next entry in the Back To The Future series. Joining John and Simon is John's brother (and resident BTTF scholar) Billy. "I was nobody. But that don't matter either, you know? 'Cause I was thinkin', it really don't matter if I lose this fight. It really don't matter if this guy opens my head, either. 'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood."
This week on the pod we discuss John's canon pick, one of his all time favourite films: ROCKY! We dive into the origins of the film, all the great moments and characters that we love, how it holds up as a still-solid 70s New Hollywood ramshackle romance. Quinn also shared some boxing context, and we also spent a LOT of time going over the Rocky sequels (kind of hard not too!). Before that, we did our usual news roundup and shared what we watched this week.
Next episode, we jump back to the Ridley Scott Watch Series to discuss ALIEN: COVENANT.

"It's a hard world for little ones".
This week on the pod we kick off a new recurring series looking at films directed by actors. For our inaugural entry, we take a look at one of the greatest 'one-hit-wonder' films in history, Charles Laughton's The Night of the Hunter. While the film was a critical and commercial failure on initial release, one that resulted in Laughton never directing again, its reputation grew in the subsequent decades. Today, it is regarded as one of the greatest films of all time (the most recent 2022 Sight and Sound ranking had it 25th). We had a great time discussing the film's twisted 'Mother Goose' southern gothic vibe, the expressionist visuals, the memorable characters, and our favourite scenes.
Before that, John and Quinn run through some news of the week and some recent watches.
Next week, we're going the distance to discuss John's canon pick: ROCKY.
